Topic: Hi Everyone

My name is Chris and I'm from the Washington D.C. area.  I'm a relatively new fan to Joe, having purchased Blues Deluxe maybe two months ago, and So Its Like That a few weeks later.  I got the Live at Rockpalast  DVD, but it wasn't until I got Live at the Royal Albert Hall DVD that I was completely hooked.  Since then I've gone back to the store and bought Pretty much everything else Joe has out there with the exception of New Day Yesterday and New Day Yesterday Live.

Joe is on a very short list of guitarists, the ones who have changed the way I play guitar and listen to music.  The other people on that list are Steve Howe, Alex Lifeson, and Stevie Ray Vaughan.  I really admire other players like Eric Johnson and John Mayer.  But Johnson goes years between releasing CD's, and Mayer just released Battle Studies, which is not exactly inspiring.

When I went on my Joe buying binge a couple of weeks ago, I was researching his most recent CD's, knowing he had pulled from them pretty heavily for the Albert Hall DVD.  Not only did my list to buy include You and Me, Sloe Gin, and The Ballad of John Henry, but I also purchased Live from Nowhere in Particular, and I saw he had a new CD coming out in a few days, Black Rock.  He's released as much music since 2005 as Eric Johnson has released his entire career.

I'm so glad I found Joe, and this forum!!  They both rock!

And yes, I will be attending the April 23rd show with my wife!  We are both really excited to see this man in person!

Re: Hi Everyone

Welcome to you and Mrs FR55, hop on board and enjoy the ride! I've only been here a short while myself, but it's a kinda nice place to be.

Like you, I'm going to see JB for my first time on 28th May at the Apollo in London, like you i'm really looking forward to seeing the master in action, unlike you, wifey is staying at home with my youngest and i'm being chaperoned by my 15 year old daughter who is a big JB fan as well.

As I said, welcome, enjoy and post often. yikes

Have Fun and laugh like it's your first time! You never know you might get to like it! big_smile

Re: Hi Everyone

Welcome to the forum Chris. Your story is echoed many times here. You have a big treat coming when you attend your first Joe concert and hear him live for the first time. As we say, bring a floor jack to return your jaw to its normal position after he finishes. The best experience the initiated have is to see the reactions of Bonavirgins at their first gig. You have heard his recorded music and still have no idea what's in store.  Enjoy the ride and have a great time with Mrs. FR55.

Re: Hi Everyone

Hello Chris and his Mrs, and welcome to the forum.  I have to ask, but I'm sure I know the answer:  What did you think after seeing JB live in DC?  We caught him in Harrisburg on the 25th.  We wanted to see reviews of the DC show before we went, so I went looking for comments and came up with the video of Sloe Gin from DC on Youtube and it looked hot.  Sounded like the crowd was going crazy!  (They did in Harrisburg too.)

I'm originally from the Comus/Boyds area if you're familiar with 270 (and I'm sure you are if you're from the DC area).  My boyfriend lives just outside Frederick, and we tend to go see a fair share of live music in his area.  So, if you hear of any good festivals down that way, be sure to post them on here and let us know about them, 'K?

Enjoy.  I echo what was said.  You're in for a treat with all JB's music (I too collected every CD and DVD within about a year of being turned on to his music) -- but you're also in for a treat with the good folks on this forum.  They're a hoot!

Chris
