Topic: Incoming with Help Needed from Tennessee

Hi Folks and Joe I hope,I'm Mike and I have a story to try my best to get to Joe,about his music and a totally different meaning to it. First let me say I'm 56 years old and have never tried to get a letter to somebody thats in Joe's poistion.

  I had a son that passed away last year on May 12th in a swiming accident down at the creek where we live,he was 21 years old. That by it's self should push me to try to do this but there's so much more. Jeremy my son was a guitar player and a really good one,I guess since I'm his Pop I can say that. I myself had been playing since I was 14,but never could hold a candle to his playing. But with the both of us playing and loving everything about the blues,rock,delta you name it ,we would hear a really awesome solo and look at each other and the goosebumps were like in time with each other,music moved us in the same way. We would sit for hours and listen to Joe.He was so anxious for you to see your dream and play at the Royal Albert,he would say,Joe made it Pop. He never got to see the DVD.

Here's what I wanted to get to Joe. His music,his solos now more than ever mean so much more. Jerr loved every album,every tune,every riff. His favorites were, Mountian Time, River, Slo Gin, Richmond, Asking Around for You,go figure that one. Now because of Joe's music,I'm still in a way in touch with my son. I can sit turn it on ,close my eyes and he's still right here beside me,when I hear Mountian Time I feel like I can reach out and touch him,I sit by the creek and listen to River and it takes one a new meaning. And,"Asking Around for You" has touched not only myself,but scores of his friends. Is there a story to the writing of that song ?

I'm sorry if this is not a proper post and even more so since I'm a newbie here but I'm just trying to somehow let Joe know his music is not just making charts,it's crossing bridges like nobody knows.

Wow, what a story. I am sorry for the loss of your son. I have a 23yo son, and I can only imagine what you went through. I am sure Joe will be touched by this story.

Mike, I'm so sorry for your loss. You have my deepest sympathy...

Your son lives on in the persons that knew him and in the things he did and loved. So he lives on in Joe's music, too.

Mike, welcome and my that is a tragic story. my son is 22 now and a huge JB fan, and I don't know what I would do if he was lost. probably the same as you. This is most poignant now, as we passed the #5000 registered user on the site this weekend. I was going to post a new topic of why we are still here. We can all give ourselves a big pat on the back for hanging around, perservering with Joe through it all. no, not really. I'm still here because of Joe and his music. We are all very happy for Joe's success, for him. But how many lives has he touched in the last 20 years? He confirmed that the American dream is still alive, yes he has talent but has also worked very hard to get to this point. He has reminded me of all of the great guitarists from the 60's and 70's that I grew up with, took me back to my roots. And he has crossed the age barrier where my son now has gone back to find and appreciate older blues recordings. Joe changed my life, and many others lives, and that's why we are still here.

Hi Mike,

I was very much touched by your words.  Losing a child has got to be the worst thing a parent can face.  My wife and I too lost a child (was stillborn) and we were devastated.  You have to remember though that you had your son for twenty-one blessed years and there'll be many things that will remind you of him.  The fact that you both shared the same passion for the guitar is precious.  If Joe read your post then you will hear from him I'm sure.
This forum is also a great place to learn about other fine musicians, particularly blues guitarists.

With all the topics on here, I don't always find the time to venture to the newbie section.  Your post sent the chills right down my spine.  My oldest will turn 21 in a few weeks, I can not even imagine what you've been through, I am so very sorry for your loss.

May the love of Joe's music continue to hold much happiness for you and keep you bonded with your son in a very special way.  smile

Thank you very much folks for the very warm welcome.

There are alot of things that go through your mind when something like this happens.The biggest thing was where do I go,will I ever feel a breeze,a smell ,a shadow ,anything that will remind me of him,something to just keep him close.

We listened to just about every guitar player out there when he was here,growing up and learning to play. Rock, blues, metal. Clapton, BB, Beck, Joe Satriani, Gilmore this list could go on for days, but JB was different to him, he loved Joes solo's.  I listen to them all still, but JB's music is the bridge and I really didn't know that until one night listening to Mountian Time when he played it at the Rockpalast, when the solo came on, Jeremy was right here with me again, goosebumps to goosebumps. Still now when I hear Joe, I still feel him and don't get that from any other player. Crazy huh.

All I can say is Joe thank you ,for your talent,your hard work and for the bridge that still links my son and I,it's been a rough year but your music has been a huge help in getting through it.

Hi Mike. I read your story and that is rough. You have my deepest sympathy. Hang around, share the love of Joe and his music and enjoy the company. This is a very warm community and there is a place for you and the memories you hold dear. Healing from a loss this deep takes time, faith and patience. You seem to be on a good track with the music already.  Don't be a stranger.
