Topic: The Perfect Age of Rock N Roll Blues Band

On Saturday, 4/3 at 10 PM PDT, there will be a live broadcast of the band on KSDS FM88.3 http://www.jazz88.org/listen.php

This band is made up of Pinetop Perkins, Hubert Sumlin, Willie "Big Eyes" Smith, Bob Margolin, Bob Stroger, and James "Sugar Blue" Whiting. For those who don't recognize some of the names, look them up. Those that do, tune in. This is one of three stops on the "Once and For All" tour which is being filmed for a documentary. They have a combined performance age of over 300 years and resumes that look like a who's who of Blues. A rare opportunity to listen to legends jamming. Don't miss this.

Actually Rocket, that came from the fishwrap, believe it or not.
As for Rodgers, I couldn't bear the fair, even for him.

edit, for those who track trivia, Pinetop is probably the oldest active touring performer in the world. I think the youngest man in the group is in his mid 60's. Worth a listen, even though it will be very late (or early Sunday) for most of the non left coasters.

A shameless bump. On line tonight. Forum stalwart Libby attended the show in LA last night and she is speechless. That says a LOT! See the first post for the link. Legends live. Once in a lifetime opportunity for Blues fans.

The venue here really is too much though,  Ridiculous.  Besides ticket prices, you have a 75 dollar minimum per person meal and 2 drink per person minimum.  They sell tickets only "package" where you only get to sit in a small offset area on the second floor and watch the show on a small television screen mostly walled away from the sound and totally away from an actual view of the show, but cannot approach the railing to watch.  LAME.  San Diego IS classy as Ron Burgundy (Anchorman character) stated, but not that classy.  The idea is ok (dinner and show), but come on, everybody in the town isn't made of money and the crowds drawn are the marginally interested kind, i.e. "be scene seen out & about" regardless of how, when, where, and especially cost.  I guess business expense account could make it accessible to you Tom, and other business class types, although again, the not really caring too much about the music kind, certainly not including you and many you & me know.  Oh yeah, sorry I couldn't make dinner with you when here recently Tom.  My hours just don't fit.

Re: The Perfect Age of Rock N Roll Blues Band

The show itself was beyond comprehension - just brilliant.... really.  I feel so fortunate to have been there, and to have met these LEGENDS.

I listened to the simulcast of the third show, last night, and shared it with friends around the world.  I had about 10 chats open at once on Facebook - including one with Rick.  Always lovely to share something magical like this.

I wonder if the radio station will archive the recording - I certainly hope so.  Otherwise, we shall wait for the documentary which is sure to be great.  I met the Director at the show - he is very excited about this project .... it's his dream ..... and aren't we the lucky ones to benefit from it?  Yes, indeed we are.

I know that Joe could play one of those kid's guitars with the plastic strings and make it sound good-

Rocket, I wish my company picked up the tab for entertainment. They're picking up the airfare, rental sled & gas and hotels.
Plus my per diem drinking allowance...  cool  Maybe if I could get the big shots at HQ hooked on JB et. al.

Re: The Perfect Age of Rock N Roll Blues Band

I will contact the station to see if it will be available as an archived stream later.
Lets hope so, Sugar Blue's harp work was just unbelievable. I've never heard its equal. The audio was so good it seemed like you were sitting center stage front row. Club patron ambiance, chairs scraping, a little buzz in an amp between tunes. The group was as tight as a vise. Masters all, jamming and having a great time together. cool

edit: Anyone that wants can send an em request to markd@Jazz88.org
This is a low budget public broadcast station from the local junior college so publicity, or promises of donations may help.
It may be copywrited and have issues for a re-airing or archive link but we can hope.
