Topic: Sydney Show 31 March 31 2010

After a long wait - my son and I saw Joe Bonamassa in Sydney

I stood right in front of Joe so sometimes I didn't hear the vocals as well as I was slightly behind the PA, but that was worth seeing his playing - WOW! No drugs can give you this felling.

...and some of what I write is in another post so forgive my struggling for words.

The Sydney gig was simply breathtaking. I took no record of photos or anything else as I was incapable as I was living so in the moment. I shall write up a diary on the plane from Sydney to Bluesfest.

The setlist was very similar to the current tour that I have read on the posts and suffice to say I concur with being blown away.

I am on my way with my son to Bluesfest to see Joe twice. It will be a cut down set of course. Then Buddy Guy and Jeff Beck follow. You could only wish for BB King to gey the perfect four of a kind !

I can only say Joe's performance is up with the Freddy King, Rory Gallagher, BB King, Led Zeppelin and Free and Roy Buchanan concerts I have seen. That tells how old I am, but currently I feel like a young fan - that will subside once the adrenaline drops !

Joe has developed into such a great artist - it's just boggling.

PS

Joanne Shaw Taylor was support - she was great

PPS

Very briefly spoke to Joe's PA guy - nice bloke

PPS

Joe's guitar tech sometimes reminded me Of Doyle Bramall II

I'm outa here !!!

There you are Rod S. By the time you get off the plane, your jaw should be back in the socket. Very nice, totally typical response for a Bonabaptism. Too stunned to take notes, blown away, best ever, hmmm, sounds quite familiar to me.  lol
That feeling like a young fan, nope, it won't go away. Your parade of shows in the past mirrors mine, so we are of the same vintage. Yes, the adrenalin does subside, but the mania increases. I just got that buzz back again reading your report! Keep them coming, we all feed off your high. Two more to go, I know how you feel. Thanks for the lift. I'm grinning from ear to ear.

"My name is Rick and I am a Bonaholic."

Hilarious!

My screen name is Xcorporate and I'm a Bonaholic, it's been 3 hours since I've listend to Joe.

Bonaholic serenity prayer:

Joe grant me serenity to accept the blues scale; The courage to sit front row in front of your cabs; And the wisdom to never allow Delta to touch my guitar.

Re: Sydney Show 31 March 31 2010

Heh heh.  Not so isolated now, are you Rod?!  Rick's right, it makes you feel like a young fan, but it does NOT go away, time has proven it again and again...and the young fans (plenty of them now, the growing fastest group) seem to get the point that musically open hearts and minds and having no generation gaps is pretty dang cool!  cool Struggling for words and boggling, yup, we get it.  Welcome to the other side of Bonamassa, the LIVE virALL virUS side!  Do enjoy the Bluesfest for yourselves and for me (US) too!!! I also have had that thought of a Doyle II look about him of Dave Pate. Hey Warren, send a post card!

Re: Sydney Show 31 March 31 2010

Heheh. We like to have our fun here, but live Joe is no laughing matter XCorporate. Once bitten, nothing else compares. That feeling of anticipation as the gig date approaches, the buzz of the crowd of fans in the lobby, walking to your seat,  trying to soak it all in. Then he comes on stage and way too soon, it's over. Always better, never the same, even with the same set list.

I love your serenity prayer. Add Alitalia to the list of git destroyers. Athens to Tel Aviv last fall on the last lap of the European tour. I think it was his favorite Musicman.
