Topic: HEY ALL

Hi guys and gals decided to upgrade from lurker to forum newb. So what to say...

I'm male 25 years old from South East England. Name is Danny. Been a lifelong fan of music but only recently decided to become obsessed by it again - my younger brother started playing the guitar which awoke my passion for rock music and although I have never been inclined - even influenced me to start learning myself and as I type I am awaiting delivery of a cheapo bass guitar to play around with (wanted to make sure I didn't tread on Mr Lead's toes lol).

Was brought up on Clapton and Skynard and Zepplin etc so always loved blues laced rock, as I got older I moved on to metal but lost interest along the way (just not as angry nowadays lol) and have recaptured my love for the classics but in general I will listen to anything. My bro is a huge classic blues fan and has turned me onto that and in turn that has led me to the latest generation and I have become a huge fan of guys like Derek Trucks, Doyle Bramhall II, John Mayer oh and some guy with a strange Bonna something or other name wink He can play the guitar pretty well it seems haha

Hoping to catch Mr B for the 1st time this year probably at High Voltage festival.

Outside of music I love mixed martial arts (or ultimate fighting) like UFC. Other than that my main passion is pyschedellic thinking (going hand in hand in my musical evolution I believe). I read about, talk about and generally absorb as much as I can on the subject, whilst by no means is it all about drugs I am however a huge beliver in and proponent of legalisation and think it is a key fulcrum in terms of the progression of our society.

I look forward to shooting the **## with you all and hopefully meeting some of you at some gigs eventually.

Hi Brack, can't quite recall the 1st song now to be honest but I started only recently on John Henry and was blown away. Have had immense joy checking out his back catalogue. Just a superb guitarist who is getting better and better.

I remember my first Joe B song (2 years ago).... Sloe Gin.... on Planet Rock, thanks to Nicky Horne. Within a month... i had bought his entire back catalogue.

The first song I actually heard was "Woke Up Dreaming" while I was looking through a Guitar World article on him about 2 years ago. I looked up a live video of him performing online and about 10 minutes later I had to change my shorts...

Yes Jones looks promising for sure..........dont think Hardy has anything for GSP, but there is always a chance in this sport.........just saw that Alves is out of the fight with Fitch..that stinks was looking forward to that fight.

Oh well, honestly I don't think Hardy has anything for GSP either but gotta root for the Englishman lol Nationalism, I don't care a jot about the UK but when it comes to sports..... wink

Also Hardy is damn good, he is really being overlooked, Serra beat GSP so Hardy certainly can. I expect GSP to win but won't be betting on it thats for sure Hardy is legit

Haha thanks guys.

About the psychedellic thinking, of course it is driven mainly by use of psychedellics thus enabling you to see reality in ways you never imagined possible. However with said I like to think its not absolutely necessary to use drugs to change your thought patterns (its just the most effective way). I think we can all feel that something is inherently wrong in our soceties today and pyschedellic thinking to me is thinking about ways in which we can better our lives without being constrained by the usual social norms.

Of course people like Groff and Leary, Huxley, Kesey, Terrence McKenna (a personal fave), Hoffman, etc etc are all hugely important to the history of pyschedellic thinking but you can go right back to early ancient civilisations from all over, eastern Buddisht philosophys - not my strong point, ancient Greek (Plato was very pyschedellic), or perhaps just primitave tribes from the amazon and their ayahuasca practices. There are many influences on psychedellic philosphy (even modern influences and unlikely candiadates such as Nietzsche).

The main point is to try and think for yourself. In the end nothing can compare with personal expierence but a mistake the 'hippies' made was never doing anything with their insights, smoking grass and dropping acid all day can sadly eventually lead into another form of hedonism (which is fine in the right context but not in changing the world). Hippies didn't run for government and as we know Presidents/PMs NEVER inhaled lol. You have to take an amount of time to think about and intergrate your expierences into your everyday life and think of how you can make use of these expierences positively and then of course you have to actually get up and do it haha. Its important to see where we went wrong and right over the course of history.

HAHA hey Gunter I never called any hippy worthless. They started the whole ball rolling, sadly most of you decided to go get office jobs in 1970 or else turned into the well worn cliched burnout. It wasn't a flaw with the people but with the movement as whole and a lack of actual direction. I cannot say that anything that has followed has done any better thats for sure - thats where the thinking has to come in we need to figure out an actual plan of attack to implement the changes we all wish for.

BTW Plato was very very psychedellic. Check out his allegory/metaphor of the Cave. It bears a lot of resembelance to Learys reality tunnels he was fond of talking about. In fact ancient greece was a fairly pyschedellic place, what with the mysterious Soma myths a nd the Elyusian Mysteries and The Oracle(s) at Delphi. Minoan Crete is thought to be the very last ancient goddess cult based civilisation before the emergence of the widespread conquerer/dominator societies that followed.

As for Nietzsche, he takes a lot of critiscm, some warranted but much not. His notion of the Ubermensch may have inspired the Nazis but that was never his intent. he wanted people to be the best they could be, to strive for perfection in every facet of their lives even if that is not possible (or as some would say unnessecary as we are all already perfect). he certainly had some valid observations and theories.
