MARTIN HARLEY BAND

Hey bonnabuddies, don't know how many of you are aware of Martin Harley but my brother turned him onto him after he saw him at Glastonbury last year and brought back his 1st (solo?) album. Well it seems he opened for Joe B a while back so he obviously has some merits haha. I don't like comparing people to other artists but generally speaking, the band (who have gone through a few changes since the album I have - this new 1 will be #4 I believe) sound like what you would get if you took a classic modern bluesman like Joe or Clapton and gave them a lapsteel and mixed in some strong Jack Johnson influences.

Its very laid back kind of surfy country tinged stuff but with a great blues influence to boot. He (they?) are also great songwriters - on the debut I was joyfuly singing along to both catchy ditties and quite emotional souful stuff alike, but all songs that stuck in my mind just as prominently as covers from Tom Waits (Chocolate Jesus) and Dylan (I shall be released) both of which are my favourite version of said songs. whilst I only have the 1st album I have listen to most of his/their other stuff and its all great.

CHECK IT OUT - Youtube martin harley and there is some great stuff. Great singer, great guitarist, great songwriter(s?), great covers, great ecletic yet laidback 'cool' style, unusual instrument choices - whats not to like?
