Well maybe my Dad had some good tastes!  Always considered his taste to be a tad corny!  I was wrong!  Check out around the middle when he showed Eddie Van Halen that finger tapping wasn't his idea.  Kind of reminds me of Mark Knopfler.

i could be wrong, but i believe the part you are referring to features him playing artificial harmonics, not fingertapping.  a guy i work with is huge into chet atkins and jerry reed and plays a ton of there songs and a lot of them feature that technique.  maybe some of the players on here can verify but i'm almost certain that is artificial harmonics.  not that i think eddie van halen invented tapping, you'd have to be an idiot to think that.

Just did some research into "Guitar Tapping".
It's been around for around 200 yrs. Paganini was known to use this technique. Also prevalent among Jazz musicans as pioneers of the style.
Eddie Van Halen just raised the bar, up a notch.
