For you Portland folks who have never been to the Aladdin... they have a bar next door called "The Lamp" as in, Aladdin's Lamp. Good food and drinks.

If you hang around out back you'll probably see Joe's bus and maybe JB himself.

and if yer hungry for some late night munchies post show - right around the corner is the Greatest Place in the World, aka The 24 Hour Hotcake House.  Sort of the Joe Bonamassa of killer dives / eateries.  Seriously.

Re: Murfdog Oregon show reviews begin!

My buddy just remembered two more guitars:

Gibson ES 345 with a Bigsby tail piece
Ernie Ball Double Neck

Re: Murfdog Oregon show reviews begin!

Was one of the numerous Les Pauls the new Blue one? The gear section fellows are lusting over that one. Oh Lord, the wait is killing me.

Welcome back stranger......See ya in Sac and SF next week.

Re: Murfdog Oregon show reviews begin!

These are the guitars I remember seeing:

Ernie Ball Double Neck
Les Pauls (Black, Blue, Goldtop, Burst, maybe others?)
355
Korina Explorer
Firebird
Korina Flying V
Ernie Ball Axis(?)
another Ernie Ball of some sort. Vaguely Strat shaped with a purple quilt top.
and the accoustic

And of course the Theremin, or as my buddy calls it, the "Jimmy Page Voodoo Box" (in reference to a scene from It Might Get Loud)

The show was great. Good mix of some of my favorites from past albums, and newer stuff.  I am jealous of the folks who are going to make it to more than 1 of his stops in OR.

Highlights for me were "So Many Roads", "Sloe Gin" and "Bird on a Wire"

Also, I think Carmine should consider keeping the eye-patch on at least a semi-permanent basis as it gives off an awesome pirate vibe.  smile

Re: Murfdog Oregon show reviews begin!

Review for Oregon show #2....Portland/Aladdin Theatre/about 750 seats......Well, ladies and gents, this show was one for the books. First off, he was very proud that this show sold out in 3 days and remembered fondly (lol) the time back in '02 when he played to only 20 people!! This show was somehow even better than Eugene, probably because of the packed house and vocal crowd. The highlights of this set included a great version of "Blues Deluxe" (without the swells) more of a straight ahead version with less special effects. Also, he keeps changing the "Just got Paid" suite into something that sounds nothing like it use to in the middle-pretty much dropping the Frampton part and replacing it with something else I'm not quite familiar with. The new stuff grows on one rapidly with "Blue and Evil" and "When the Fire Hits the Sea" and "Young man Blues" all ranking at the top of the jamming ladder.....and, of course people were balling at "Sloe Gin" again. Isn't it awesome??
Here's the setlist

Ballad Of John Henry
Last Kiss
So Many Roads
So It's Like That
If Heartaches were Nickels
Further on up the Road
Sloe Gin
Lonesome Road Blues
Happier Times
Blue and Evil
Bridge to Better Days
When the Fire Hits the Sea
3 Times a Fool
Blues Deluxe(replaced "Great Flood" that was on printed setlist but was not played)
Young Man Blues
Woke up Dreaming....even longer than Eugene. This version must have run 10 minutes?!!
Django(not listed on printed setlst)
Mountain Time
Encore:
Bird on a Wire
Just got Paid-sick version!

20 tunes at approx the same length as Tuesday night slighly over 2 hours 10 minutes... Stay tuned for more news from Bend and the Tower Theatre. Rock on Bonafide Bonamassa Bonamaniacs!

Ya done good. Thanks so much!!

Re: Murfdog Oregon show reviews begin!

Thanks for the reviews, Murfdog!  Can't wait until next week:  Sacramento and San Francisco!  Aching to see all the guitars, and so excited that I'm taking 8 friends to their Bonabaptism in SF!

Re: Murfdog Oregon show reviews begin!

Wow.  Unfreakingreal.  I'm pretty much still blown away this morning by what I saw and heard last night.  It's a long story but suffice to say my ticket fiasco worked itself out to the point that I was actually sitting in the front row for this event, next to a Bonamassa newb who just called and said his face hurts from smiling so much last night night.  All told I brought three new Bonamassa converts to last nights show, all were equally blown away.  I appreciated Joe's comments about playing for 20 people there back in 2000 to selling it out in three days now.

Complete, total, utter command of the guitar and barnfulls of confidence to burn were in full display.  I heard a guy mumbling that he should just quit playing after seeing that, I couldn't get home fast enough to fire up the rig and go for a bit.

Just scorched, thank you so much Mr. Bonamassa - I needed that!  Actually a complete killer night as we started at the Delta Cafe for dinner, saw Joe B. destroy it at the Alladdin, and finished it up with a late night Voodoo Doughnuts run....aaawww man.

BTW - my personal favorite fiddle he broke out last night was the little Firebird Jr. with the single mini bucker...GASsing hard now  cool

Re: Murfdog Oregon show reviews begin!

OK, I'm gonna keep this short or I'll either go off or get booted off for OT. Joe...Are you guys feelin' the N.W. love or what? Eugene and Portland reflect exactly why we did all 4 shows..and Seattle was thought about hard. Awesome guitar chats w/ you and I'm glad you got to see the "BattleAxe"...by the way her name is "Josephine"....good story like many are. Talked w/ Dave after the PDX show and he remembered me right off from the '08 Grants Pass show...Told him I wanted to BS in Eugene or Medford for a few at the right time. By the way again....I!!! want a Moog Theremin! We are pimping you in all places, live and recorded like always. Gotta go get ready for the Bend trip. Keep on Killin', Kent  P.S. I e-mailed Nuge and said that Hello for for you. I gave a brief synopsis of how sick these shows are and how to try to make the Austin or Fort Worth shoiw w/ Shemane...Talk about a night out w/ thw wife

Re: Murfdog Oregon show reviews begin!

Don't be shy Kent. There is no penalty for verbosity. Type your fingers to the bone! We want every detail. Great post. Keep them coming.

Re: Murfdog Oregon show reviews begin!

Tonite was special..............Joe played the Tower Theatre in Bend, Oregon....that he had to admit he had never heard of till he was scheduled to do a gig there....Well...he sold out the less than 500 seat hall...and joked that he'd be back! Another fantastic set, but the highlights of this show was being able to see most band members and Joe. Got great pics with the band and Joe and got to impart some oregon hospitality upon him at the same time. I think I may have also failed to mention, when Joe comes to town, he's not to hard to spot..His touring semi has a giant "Joe Bonamassa" printed on the side...looks almost like a beer ad! It's huge and proud! So here is the setlist for Bend:
Ballad of John Henry
Last Kiss
So Many Roads
So, It's Like That
If Heartaches Were Nickels
Further on up the Road
Sloe Gin
(these seem to be the first 7 at every show)
Lonesome Road Blues
Happier Times
Bridge to Better Days
Blue and Evil
3 Times a Fool
Blues Deluxe
Young Man Blues
Woke up Dreaming....This just keeps getting more ridiculous!
Django
Mountain Time
Encore
Bird on a wire
Just got Paid

Another incredible night...the band and Joe were really on....Bogie is a great drummer, in case you had missed that! Well, on to the last Oregon show on Tuesday....4 shows in a week...I think we will have had enough to hold us over for another year or so...This has been great! The crowds, roadies, band are all so relaxed that it makes for a great experience...Everyone is in for a treat
