Topic: John Mayall

You want a lesson in Blues - Rock?!  Go see John Mayall.  Tight band, great rocking set list, very big sound.  I was expecting an old type of sound (very 1960/70's-ish), but he came out rocking with a "newer" sound.  It was awesome.  Plus he is a super nice guy and signed his new CD "Tough" that I bought (which is awesome BTW).

Re: John Mayall

I saw a really nice special 1/2 hour show about him on TV last year. Gave a retrospective of his work and had a really cool in depth interview at his home in the LA area. I've been a fan forever. Iconic musician. I really love JB's cover of Another Kind of Love. One of his best IMHO. I own most of his early vinyl. Blues From Laurel Canyon is one of my favorites.  Where did you see him play?

Re: John Mayall

Yea he is the man.  I got the tickets for my dad for x-mas...  We saw him at a little local theater in Bayshore on Long Island.  Its a new theater that has some money behind it.  They keep it nice and clean and the sound is good.  We had another one in Huntington, but that closed down and it was not the cleanest of places... but they did have some really cool acts go there, Mr. Bonamassa himself, Larry Carlton Band with Special Guest Robben Ford, Robben with his own band.  It seems since Huntington closed, this one and the one in West Hampton Beach have taken over (another beautiful thearter).  Next up at Bayshore is Sonny Landreth, previously we saw Trower, Montoya, and Castro there... so they are doing the right thing by getting good acts.  Now to get Robben Ford there smile.

Re: John Mayall

I saw John Mayall and his band in Stuttgart (Germany) just after he had published "The turning point" - that must have been in 69 or 70 - how time flies ...

If someone had told me then that he'd still be doing the blues 40 years later - and that I would still go to blues and rock concerts in 2010 ...

Thanks Rockfarmer, I think I'm all over that. I wonder if he would sign some of my old vinyls?

Hey Rick,
It would be my guess that he certainly would as he was in the lobby before the show doing a meet and greet as well as after the show on Long Island. He's really a cool guy who still has "it".

Re: John Mayall

We just saw Mayall last weekend in Clearwater, (along with Walter Trout, Ana Popovic, Chris Duarte, and Robert Cray).

Great show and a killer band. I had to check out who his current band was...what a history! No wonder they sounded so good.

He should let Rocky Athas sing one or two songs, he cannot only play guitar at his cd "Miracle" of "The Rocky Athas Group".
