Topic: Best grit/sparkle type pedal?

Hey fellas (and ladies), I've recently found myself with GAS once again.... and I was wondering what the best grit/sparkle-y type pedal might be? I'm shooting for a tone similar to David's in this   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AoTi-OI_NXI      it has that real harmonically rich, sparkle-y, yet gritty sound. I've fooled with my TS but just found its not as rich as this sound.  Any ideas or opinions?

You could try the fulltone fulldrive 2. Check out thus video of David Going through his pedals. This should give you some ideas.

Micro labs Sparkle Drive, cheap, effective

Re: Best grit/sparkle type pedal?

I did find that pedal and I think it sounds good, but I'm not too sure about spending THAT much for it at the current moment...it seems as if it's just a TS with a clean/mix knob on it. I'd like to try to find something preferably under $90...maybe a pedal to run in conjunction with a TS like a treble booster or something?

Re: Best grit/sparkle type pedal?

90% of that tone comes from his pickups & amp (not including his HANDS, we're just talking GEAR here.)

He only uses OD pedals to push the amps a BIT more, like when going for a solo... for more sustain.  He used (and may still use) the Fulldrive 2 for years. He also has a board with a Klon on it. He's also been using the Barber LTD SR. The Barber is very very similar to the Timmy.

ALL these pedals will get you what you want... IF you use your amp for MOST of the drive & tone.

I currently own all of the pedals I've mentioned (except the LTD-SR; I sold it because it was SO MUCH like the Timmy that it was redundant... GREAT pedal tho!), and have done extensive side-by-side testing. So if you have any questions...

Re: Best grit/sparkle type pedal?

Thanks man, those pedals put me in the ballpark. I really like the Klon from the demos I've listened to, but it's just too darned expensive! Why are all the good pedals way too much hmm I'd love to find out that I could just mod a danelectro pedal like I did with my chicken salad and instantly make it usable.... tongue

You mean the Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive, I think.  I have one, they're great OD pedals.  The drive is based on a TS-808 and it has a blendable clean boost.  I run it in front of an on the edge of saturation Classic 30 to push it over the edge.

Re: Best grit/sparkle type pedal?

Though expensive, my secret is the Providence SOV-2 OD pedal...shhhh.... never heard another OD pedal that kept the original sparkle/tone of your amp when engaged.  However, OD level is not extreme on pedal, might be weak for single coils.
