Topic: Best Rock Band Ever?

So, for the last few years my buddies and I have been passing around this question to all our rocker buds and it usually spurs some fun points of view. Since the folks on this site seem to have great taste, I figured I'd give you a go of it.....so here is the question.....what is the best rock band ever?
Generally we give our audience 4 to choose from...
The Beatles
The Rolling Stones
Led Zepplin
or Pink Floyd...
   Since all 4 of these bands are completely different...let me know why you picked them....and, if you want to add one of your own, feel free. My vote goes to "Zepplin"

Really depends man, haha, there's so many different TYPES of rock, lol, would be kinda hard, plus, so many peoples opinions would always be different...

Punk
Metal
Country-Rock
Classic Rock

Depends what you even CLASS as rock, lol

Its too hard for me, I'd have to pick like a top 50 before I can even try and conclude an ALL time fave, haha.

It is always a hard decision.For me I would have to say Zepplin.I think for a hard rock or heavy band they were the best overall.I think that their popularity today with each generation of fans cant be denied.They combined raw power ,energy,sublety,and musicianship like no one before or after,except maybe Joe.Based in the blues but hard rockin like a mutha ,ya I would pick Zep.

My point is that Led Zepplin had the best 4 musicians of all the bands mentioned, but for any kind of southern rock, Skynard is king....of course...there's always Molly Hatchet,lol.

Off the list, Zep for Rock, but the others did a lot more than Rock. For overall enjoyment, Floyd. For impact and variety, the Beatles. and the Stones just produced great music forever. All different and all great.

From the choice given I'd say without doubt the Rolling Stones for their songs, influence and longetivity, with an honoury mention for Led Zeppelin. Beatles were a great pop band, most people could not name 10 Pink Floyd songs and there would be many I'd list before them.

I have an idea to help.... Pick your 50 bands from all the rock genres you've mentioned, and a few others you've missed out, and then think of 4 you couldn't do without on a desert Island. It helps me when i have to think of my top favourites .

Although they're top of my list I wouldn't classify Pink Floyd as rock in my sense of the word rock but there again I'd find it difficult to pigeon hole them.  Melodic rock, ambient rock?  I wouldn't be on my desert island without them though. So ...

Interesting that so far that no 'new' bands are mentioned (Kings of Leon, Killers to throw in a couple of names) so longevity and listenability are important.  Of the 'newer' bands my vote goes to the Foo Fighters.

Oh, best rock band... that's difficult.

On a desert island I'd pick none of the bands named in the first post.
Beatles: It's alright, but I don't like it that much.
Rolling Stones: I like the Stones, but no.
Pink Floyd: I like them too, but no.
Led Zeppelin: I hardly listen to Led Zeppelin.


I'll make it a Top 3
For me it's:
1. AC/DC
2. Lynyrd Skynyrd (especially 1973-1977)
3. Motörhead
