I was listening to a discussion about Beyoncé, following her 6 Grammy's the other night. The question was; Is Beyoncé the best female artist EVER ?

I don't expect many replies to this.... but i thought I would put it out there!

Remember, she is still only 28 years old, and a long career ahead of her....

A lot of people call Aretha a pop artist. Pop is relative. If a song becomes popular, it's pop. Beyonce's a great example. She's about as all over the place as she can be given what she does. Rnb, hip-hop, dance, a trifle bit of blues, funk. I don't particularly care for her music, but there's no denying she is some talent. Greatest? Well, I'll let everybody else have an opinion on that. She can definitely sing her **** off. She tackled At Last and didn't look like a fool.

Nowhere near. Anyone see the Divas thing with Aretha, she totally blew away the others and she is well past her prime. Celine Dion tried to match her and just got shredded. Great stuff.

Murfdog, when i was listening to the discussion, i think all of the criteria you have mentioned was up for debate.

See Brack, that's how specific it needs to be Best or Fave Female VOCALIST, Beyonce has a real shot. Best Female ARTIST is a total different category....(at least in my mind) and Beyonce has no shot against the Sarah McLachlans etc who compose and interpret their own music, hell even KT Tunstall is better than Beyonce in that category, ditto Avril Lavigne;)

I think the composition angle is b.s., no offense intended. Nobody here questions Etta James's legacy or artistry, and yet, most of her hits were written by someone else. It's what you're feeling when you're belting it out, not whether or not you wrote. So let's just throw that out the window.
