Topic: Mannish Boy - Hindu Love Gods...

- caught the end of Joe's show on Planet Rock Saturday evening, - he played a great version of Mannish Boy but not sure who it was by, - might be wrong but vocals sounded like Muddy but production was way too modern. Lead me to do a bit of searching and came up with a version by the Hindu Love Gods which sounded very good and to my surprise the band combined a couple of my fav's Warren Zevon on vocals and some little ol' band called REM without Mr Stipe...

So couple of questions; - as above anybody know the version that Joe was playing Saturday? And, - anybody else got anything to pitch in about the Hindu Love Gods?

Old 1990 album, out of print here in the U.S. Got alot of airplay with their cover of Rasberry Beret when it first came out.

When I was a child I spoke as a child, But all I heard was how I should get ahead,
Now growing up it ain't anything but all This indecision with these debts and doubts
And worries hanging over my head. When I was a child I spoke as a child,
I wish I could remember what I said.

If you go back and replay Joe's PR Show, joe mentioned the album "Electric Mud". Just found the track on Last.fm.

Re: Mannish Boy - Hindu Love Gods...

thanks guys, - Brack I did a bit of research on the Electric Mud album, - it's now in my Amazon basket!

Looks like the Hindu Love Gods will have to be an i-Tunes download as looks like it is out of "print" here. Surprised a few more people have not commented on their pedigree, - some good blues songs on their album played by some fine artists. I guess the band name put a lot of people investigating it, sounds a bit "world" music-ish, - what a useless name for a music genre!

Re: Mannish Boy - Hindu Love Gods...

I've been a huge fan of the late, great Warren Zevon since high school (late 70's, early 80's).  Got Hindu Love Gods when it came out.  Yeah, it was a studio project with WZ and a couple of guy from REM.  There was some kerfuffle over it, as I recall.  I'm not sure if the REM guys knew for sure it was going to be released, etc.  Can't remember exactly.

But it's a neat album.  All covers, and some good hard blues songs.  An interesting cover of Raspberry Beret, but Warren was always one for irony.

Ian, if you can't find a copy, since it is out of print, and not likely to be released by the Zevon estate, I can see about sending you a copy.  Email me if you're interested.
