Norton Buffalo died yesterday. For all fans of Steve Miller and the many other bands he performed with he will be missed.

Re: RIP Norton Buffalo

This just breaks my heart.

He was such a kind hearted person.  I knew he was sick and was hoping his path to healing would help him. I hope it at least gave him some solace. Even though he was my favorite harmonica player, I thought he was a very nice and better person with an inspirational soul.

My condolences go out to his family and loved ones.

Re: RIP Norton Buffalo

What a talent and what a loss. I saw the gentleman perform once a few years ago with Roy Rogers (the slide player) as an acoustic duo at the Oklahoma Blues Festival. Then just this past year as part of Steve Millers band. He was a great performer and will be missed.

When I was a child I spoke as a child, But all I heard was how I should get ahead,
Now growing up it ain't anything but all This indecision with these debts and doubts
And worries hanging over my head. When I was a child I spoke as a child,
I wish I could remember what I said.

Re: RIP Norton Buffalo

A sad loss to the music world especially here in the Bay Area where Norton was very well known. I met him over 30 years ago working in a saloon where he gigged frequently. We crossed paths a number of times over the years and always had a laugh over "wilder times". Saw Roy Rodgers with Tommy Castro 2 weeks ago and they dedicated their encore, "Dust My Broom', to Norton.

That's where I'll be next Sat. night not to mourn the loss, but to celebrate a talented and nice guy.

Re: RIP Norton Buffalo

OK Angela from my scribbled in the dark notes here's what Bonnie played. First was a song she said she had written just recently called, I think, Out of the Shadow(of love)?, Can't Turn You Loose/with Roy Rodgers, Nick of Time, Patron Saint of Pain/with Roy, Gnawnin' On It/with Roy, the next was a standard blues which sounded like Dust My Broom/with Charlie Musselwhite on harp & Roy, Tender Heart/ written by Norton with Norton's band the Knockouts providing harmonies on this one. As she departed she addressed the audience to say that the show was a benefit to raise money for Norton's family to pay off his medical bills and lots of tickets had fallen into the hands of scalpers. So she challenged the scalpers to turn their profits in the right direction and give back to Norton's family. She then said I wouldn't want to be on their karma wagon, to a resounding cheer from the crowd. She also joined the Doobie Bros. on Listen to the Music as well as a few jams with Steve Miller. It was an emotionally charged evening and we had a great time, but I gotta admit the redhead just about brought me to tears with her opening number which she dedicated to her old friend Norton as she got a bit teary eyed herself.

Re: RIP Norton Buffalo

jdawg, you're a total sweetheart to be scribblin' in the dark for me, thank you!!  wink It sounds like a good time with emotions running high.  I like the line about the karma wagon, she is always witty whether she's talkin' men or whatever.  That Gnawin' On It song just shows you how badass Bonnie is!!

I can't remember if I posted about Bonnie losing her brother about 9 months ago to brain cancer.  She was very, very close to him and he got a tumor and fell ill shortly after both of her parents died, so she's been losing her loved ones, which I'm sure added to the emotion for her.  The one good thing about her brother Steve was, the Mayo Clinic gave him 6 months to live, he went into remission and had some very good years, almost 8 years, until another tumor developed, which didn't go so well.

The show was a nice effort on everyone's part, its very expensive to get sick. Hospital bills are through the roof, but that's  another story. I saw the Doobie Brothers last summer, hubby got the tickets, I really enjoyed the show, they put on a great performance.

Thanks again for the report jdawg. smile
