Topic: MiZ - I need to share this band!
Within the past year I've discovered this band called MiZ that I think people here would really enjoy. They opened for the Derek Trucks Band last fall at the Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg PA (I posted about the show at the time, maybe some remember)... I unfortunately didn't make that show (only heard a recording), but by all accounts it was a huge success and the Trucks audience really dug them (so you all will too)... they actually got a better reception than Derek, with several standing ovations. Now a certain percentage of the audience were there for them (they do have a following), but many were quite surprised to get such a good opener. The theater was very happy with them and they'll be playing there again in the future.
They're not "blues" per se, but there's a little bit of everything in there... folk, rock, country, bluegrass, blues, jazz, funk, reggae. Mike Miz (short for Mizwinski) is a true talent as a guitarist/singer/songwriter/lyricist... his originals are consistanly solid, quality songs that touch you and stick with you. Not to mention the covers... always great choices and some of the best renditions I've heard. And to top it all off, Mike is also just a great guy. He also performs solo acoustic too, but the whole trio together is called MiZ.
Anyway, I went to see them last night (they opened and closed for Scrapomatic... see other thread) and I just gotta share my friend's recording. Not only was the show itself awesomely beautiful, but it's a top-notch recording... a soundboard/Schoeps (on stage) matrix. I highly recommend downloading this show, or at least listening to it on Archive if you don't download... enjoy...
