Re: New Hendrix CD of unreleased material out 8th March 2010

I heard somewhere that some of these tracks were intended for the fourth studio album, but it had to be put on the backburner because of the legal wrangle that ended up with him having to record Band of Gypsies (somewhat under duress allegedly). Things seemed to start going wrong for Jimi when he and Chas Chandler parted company.

I'll probably get this - Jimi would have wanted nothing more than for people to hear his music. The guy was out of this world!

Here's a question to ponder. Who's got the most posthumous material Jimi or Tupac? Material never seems to keep coming from both these guys. Lots of bands crank out dozens of tracks in the studio when they work on a new album, but then only the best dozen or so make the cut. If this stuff was truly worthy you would think it would have been released long ago. I'll give it a listen, but probably won't invest.

Sounds interesting - let's wait and see how the reviews go - if its good sound quality, it could be good - there are so many rubbish Hendrix budget and bootleg cds already, so we don't want any more of those - one things for sure, Brack must be wishing Man U hadn't sold Ronaldo and Teves!!!!

Yes - we've heard half of those tracks many times before - a few years ago I bought a double cd called Axis Outtakes - there were a few interesting tracks on it but also many poor quality sounding tracks

Joey, It's not Jimi's music I'm having a go at, it's all the other stuff ... the parasites , ie, the record company ect.. bleeding every last drop... as long as there are willing punters . His family have stated, "there's enough material for another decade." So my question is, how many more albums is that ? 1, 2, 3,.....? Not forgetting how old Jimi was when he died, and how long it's been since his death!

Memory Lane!........ San Diego High School Auditorium

I'll never forget the day he played "Are You Experienced" with his teeth, finished up with the git howling on the stage floor in anguished feedback, produced a can of Zippo lighter fluid and lit it on fire, then destroyed it by bashing it on the floor.  The noise that git produced while being killed was life changing.

Did you ever consider that the family, especially since dad had the final say for a long long time, did NOT release material for a long long time because they did NOT want to be thought of parasitic fools themselves?  There is enough material to put out 123 albums.  You could argue that there is no accompaniment to much of the material, but when you get down to brass tacks, who actually accompanied Jimi?  It was really ALL him all along.  SO how does ANYONE publish what SHOULD be published and put out as mechanical rights material?  Would it be fair to Jimi's legacy to NOT have it all out there? Maybe generations form now Jimi Hendrix will NOT be held in reverence as he is today, but maybe releasing material will make it the other way around, that he will be considered one of the all time masters much as all those "classical" composers are.  Does it really matter when the recording process became the replacement for "conducting" pieces?  May my great great grandchildren and their great great grandchildren's great great grandchildren bear some bearing on the eventual historicity of what Mr. Hendrix' total output portends.

Jimi's legacy is out there already, to hear, read and see. What i would like to see,.. any profits of the album(s) go to charities. I would like to see that happen.

Re: New Hendrix CD of unreleased material out 8th March 2010

I just heard a new cut from Valleys of Neptune on Classic Rock while waiting for JB to make an appearance.

"Hear My Train A Coming" is a song that sounds like a missing track straight off Electric Ladyland! This is not any trash off the studio floor. Fresh and as good today as it would have been then. Oh, what we missed due to his untimely demise.

My research tells me, this track has been on two albums previously...
1) Flamingo Club 02-04-67
2) Midnight Lightning

Check it out...

Re: New Hendrix CD of unreleased material out 8th March 2010

I got the title song (Valleys of Neptune) off the new album last week and believe it or not but it sounds quite modern and darn good.  I don't give a rat's a## if the family's making some income off their sibling as long as I can hear his genius...be it one day or 100 years after his passing.

Re: New Hendrix CD of unreleased material out 8th March 2010

And at least it's as he recorded, not like those Alan Douglas releases where he brought in studio musicians to overdub stuff on Hendrix's tracks.  hmm
