Topic: Lynyrd Synyrd Tickets - £5.25 per ticket commission!!!!

Went online tonight to book my tickets for Manchester Apollo in March - only to be greeted by a £5.25 charge per ticket for £38.50 tickets. (13.68% mark up - 12.13% margin) That is daylight robbery and is simply ripping off the fans. I have left a message on the LS e-mail to say I will not be paying their agents that kind of commission. Disgusted!!!

Agents can ruin an artist's reputation by this kind of overcharging. I trust that Joe's management keep an eye on this

I agree with everything you say Geoff. The artists themselves need to start becoming more aware of what is going on in their name.

Good that you left a note on their site. PSTG 5,25 per ticket is outrageous. It is stiffing the public just to see what we will pay. Unfortunately many still will.

Classic Rock mag did a thing on this a couple fo issues ago and were inundated with support. I don't necessarily begrudge agents a fee for processing the order. They have made the upfront investment in software admin systems to deal the business, but at the end of the day that IS their business.

There needs to be a lot more transparency in how these charges are being justified. The answer lies with us though, to vote with our feet and not attend the concerts and at the same time inform the artists of the reasons why.

In the case of LS it smacks of the promoters and agents making a killing just because the album has been so well received.

I hope LS get to hear about it. They addressed various social issues on 'Gods and Guns', maybe a song about greedy promoters and agents would be a good riposte.

Probably the only language some of these guys understand. In some venues you have the choice to make a ticket reservation and fetch the tickets right before the show.

I'm in Manchester next week so I'll try a direct approach if not I simply won't go - vote with my feet so to speak!

Re: Lynyrd Synyrd Tickets - £5.25 per ticket commission!!!!

Totally agree with everything said here. The scale of extra charges these days is really getting out of hand. As I said on a previous thread some time ago, A friend of mine didn't go to Joe's Glasgow show last year because a £20 ticket was going to cost him nearer £30 including booking fee, fee for using a credit card. etc.

Maybe it's something the consumer watchdogs could be looking at but I'm not sure what action, if any, they could take.

Called into MAnchester today to try and get LS ticket. 10% service charge if I wanted to pay by card (Debit or Credit) so needless to say I popped to the bank and paid in cash - face value £38.50! Result! Sue is exctatic! We really enjoyed them last time.

Welcome to the world of Rip-off, or as we prefer to call it here, Ticket-Ripoff-Master. Yes, just when you thought it was safe to order your tickets on line, you get charged a facilty fee, processing fee, handling fee and in some cases, a mailing fee. Oh wait, you want to print them out yourself? Well, there's a fee for that too! Gee, why don't they charge me an arse fee if I get to sit on a chair? Or how about a space fee because Lord knows, I do take up a little space!!

Got a show coming up this Saturday in Chicago that I'm very much looking forward too. Hard to believe that for 2 tickets it was only $30 ($15 each). But wait, the total bill came to $47.50. I guess the moral to this story is, "If you want to play, you've got to pay".

Lets keep in mind it's not the artist that's responsible for this, it's the ticket vendors.

I agree with you Roy, but it is the artist whose reputation will ultimately be sullied by association.

The management of the artist need to be very aware of the end cost of the tickets to the fans. I mean, I don't expect any of LS coming out to do a meet 'n greet after the show (maybe I'm wrong), but the last thing they will want to hear is their fans bitching to them about the unfair taxes on the ticket price.

This is something the industry is going to need to deal with. By using the internet we should be taking cost out of the service and not putting it in.

Good on you Geoff for getting to the venue, but it makes a sorry joke out of the ripoff ticketing industry. Touts on the street used to be bad enough, but I think the agencies are worse because they are scamming everybody!

Hi Ian, not sure if this is getting off topic now but don't get me started on travel - I'm booked to take my car and a small trailer to the Isle of Man - for TT week, fully expecting a bill of well over £500 from the Isle of Man Steam Racket - Now that is daylight robbery. You going?

Re: Lynyrd Synyrd Tickets - £5.25 per ticket commission!!!!

Gee Ian, that's beyond ridiculous! How can they possibly justify something like that?

And Mike, I agree it's possible some fans might get upset at the artist, but the artist has very little control over how the venue sells their tickets or who sells tickets for them. That's where the problem really lies. Normally, when venues sell tickets direct, a person doesn't get charged as bad of service charges as they do when the venue hands over the handling to ticket brokers. Of course, here in the States, we recently had two giant ticket brokers merge; those being Ticketmaster and Live Nation. How they get away with that type of monopolistic behavior is beyond me?

I guess the only way to avoid these charges is like Geoff did and that is, to go to the venue and purchase them from the box office. Of course, if I'm going to see another show at the Royal Albert Hall in London, I do need a bit of assistance with that task. wink

Geoff, I would so love to see the Isle of Man TT someday! smile
