Re: Michael Burks...

FAO Amsterhammer lol

I can't ignore your impeccable taste, George, so yes I will check out Michael Burks. Just a shame he sounds like a BBC newsreader. lol

Having taken delivery today of Sonny Landreth's Levee Town, Jay Tamkin's Sorted, Buddy Whittington's album of the same name and EC & SW at MSG, I've plenty to listen to at the moment. I will check Michael when I have a minute or two, though.

Thanks
Phil

Re: Michael Burks...

We hope to book Michael Burks in Winterswijk, where I live, in November!!

Hans Derksen from bluescafe "De Buurvrouw" and I are  working on it. He made a proposal and we hope they accept!

If you read this Micheal, please come, maybe you remember me from Schoeppingen . You gave me 2 guitarpicks for my son Bram, first I lost and then you gave me another one. We ( Marco van Rooyen from Bluesmagazine  and I ) had a nice talk after the show.

Re: Michael Burks...

In a few minutes I´m walking to the first Michael Burks show in Winterswijk and the only one in Holland this tour!

Many Bonafans there too like Rudi, Johan, Marco, Tomas and Richard Hoelscher from the Grolsch Schoeppingen Blues festival.
I´m very proud that Hans Derksen from bluescafe DE BUURVROUW and myself were able to get him to our little town.

I do hope it will be a succes and that the venue is filled with Blueslovers!

marco will take his wonderful pictures and there will a review in www.bluesmagazine.nl later, one on the forum too of course!

A little nervous Andre Wittebroek

Re: Michael Burks...

Dutch readers should go here - http://www.bluesmagazine.nl/michael-bur … interswijk for Andre's very excellent interview with Michael and show write-up.

The rest of you will have to wait for Andre to post here....... wink

Re: Michael Burks...

I'll start by saying Michael is a Joe fan. He got a real sweet tone to his voice when he said to tell Joe "hi". He told me to say something less refined, but in good spirits, to Walter Trout! lol

G and I rolled in early for the 4:30p.m. start time, and good thing. We not only had a chance to visit with Michael and the band, but heard some stellar, extended, guitar work as the sound check. We had every intention of keeping track of the song list, but once the band started we were too rapt. They played a solid 130 minute set to a VERY appreciative Belgian audience of about 140 people. I'll add there's a very active blues-loving group of people in that area. One fella brought a tee from the Arkansas Blues Festival he had attended! I heard my favorite "Empty Promises", as well as most of the tunes from "Iron Man". As usual, he gave his all. No breaks, no rest for the weary, just a steamroll of heavy, nasty, music...yummy!! Top it off with Belgian fries and mayo (standard fare in the area) and it was a great night!       Cathy

Andre: We heard what a fine job you did selling Joe!!!

(edit - your correspondent underestimated the length of the set, which was well over two hours. We also particularly enjoyed meeting and hanging with Wayne, the keyboard player. Yours truly had  his cd signed and begged a pick.) wink

Living in Holland is no use when you have a mother in-law:/. !!
Had to miss this epic gig (and meeting George and Cathy and, and,) because of her.
Tickets and all were reserved but alas..... grrrrrr

Re: Michael Burks...

I'm sorry that I still haven't got to your translation, Andre...you know how it goes.... neutral

Seeing Michael in such a tiny club was just fantastic. We both simply LOVE his tone. The sound in the club was much better than the sound on the clips I have just uploaded, but they still give a 'feel' of what it was like.
