Topic: We must have been under a rock

Two weeks ago my wife and I had never even heard of Joe, and for people who are very much into the blues...well I just don't understand how that could have happened. Then we heard a song and a short interview on the Bob and Tom radio show,  and we were (naturally) blown away. We have since purchased the Royal Albert Hall DVD and have watched  to it a few times, and we'll be seeing a show in Clearwater Florida (about 60 miles from our home) next Friday night.  Count us as fans!

Re: We must have been under a rock

Well, you seem to be making up for lost time! Show next Friday already. Prepare to be impressed. The RAH DVD certainly provides the right impression but theres nothing like being up close and personal.

It is surprising, considering your blues affinity that JoeB somehow had slipped thru your net 'til now. But it is a crowded marketplace and there are many that probably don't get the recognition they should. JB has stepped out of that league and his name is cropping up on people's radar all over, extending this forum family's reach far and wide.

Welcome to the Bonamasses! Post often. Tell us about YOU, and let us know what you thought about the gig. We love to read those 'I saw Joe for the first time last night................'. BTW, warn your friends in advance. You're going to be talking about him quite a bit in future and the bank balance will take a hit as you buy up all his material.

Oh you lucky, lucky people...............

Well, honestly I think I've  probably been suffering from that blindness that comes from of what might be described as generational chauvinism.  You know how that works...you stick with what you know you like (Clapton, BB, the Allmans and so on), and that kind of limits the possibility of discovering what you might ALSO like. Sad but true.  Well my mind has been opened. It IS possible to hear great (wish there was a stronger word than great) music that is at the same time brand new (at least to me) and timeless.

Welcome to the forum being. You're not alone with your generational chauvanism and I think we can help you with your affliction. (Take care though - you're just one step away from becoming a Bonaholic lol ) Great to hear that you've discovered Joe - amazing isn't he? - perhaps he could also be the key that unlocks the door to a whole new world of blues for you. I suggest you take a good long look at the forum's "Other Artists" section. There are pages of threads there where you'll discover lots of other great blues artists you've probably never heard of.

Have fun! This is a great place to be .

Welcome to the wonderful world of Joe and this forum, Being.
I too said exactly the same thing when I came across Joe in 2006. Well I'm glad you've found him and us.
Icon is right....check out the Other Artists section....you may find a few more surprises in store!

Re: We must have been under a rock

welcome aboard

After discovering Joe I've also expanded all kinds of things - my music collection is so much better.

I've lost count of the new musicians and bands that I've been introduced to through this forum and the knowledge of some of the folks on here never ceases to amaze me.

I've also had the (great) pleasure of meeting many of the (UK) folks on here at both the RAH and some other gigs since - It really is like a big family in a way. Check out the recent thread on the Blues assembly - you'll get a great feel for the camaraderie of the folks but to go back to your point, you'll get introduced to some amazing talent - most of whom are younger than my kids!

Like you I listen to loads of older stuff but sometimes recently I've felt that some of the stuff i've seen WILL be the classics that people are talking about twenty years from now.
