My copy from Hittin the Note came in the mail yesterday. If "Broke Down on the Brazos" and "Inside Outside Woman Blues #3" were the only good songs and the rest filler this would be a really good cd. Since there is NO filler and all great songs this has to be the best since Dose.

... and the best thing about it - the more you listen the better it gets. And it was already superb on first listen ... big_smile
I´m humming "Broke down on the Brazos" all day long ... I also really dig "Railroad boy" and "Forevermore". It´s too early to pick favourites though - the whole thing is a favourite. Hats off to Warren & Co. for this one - Jam Bands and studio albums is not always the best combination, but "By a thread" really proves the theory wrong.

Did someone who saw them recently see any of the new songs played live?

Re: Govt Mule cd

Hey Eva,

The Mule show from October 24th was just posted on mule.net under mule tracks. It has some of the new stuff from By A Thread and also guest appearances by you know who (hint: his initials are JB).

You can also get it as a torrent from bt.etree.org among others if you are into torrents. That one is an audience recording and is pretty good and also free!

I think the new CD is pretty great. Hangs right in there with Dose IMHO. The changer in my truck is full of the Mule and Joe. What else do you need?

Nothin' but the Blues

Re: Govt Mule cd

Just got home (sort of - I'm at my brothers house in Maine) and it is 3am in the morning but I am just too wired to sleep after an amazing Mule show earlier tonite.  Some good stuff from the new album - Inside Outside Woman is even better live - and lots of other good stuff - Thorazine Shuffle and 32/20 among them.  Even a tease for the Halloween show - a little piece of You Can't Always Get What You Want.  Any one going to that show have fun!  Jackie Green played a great opening set, and then came back out later with the Mule.

My only complaint is it was a STANDING show - after working all day and then standing for over 4 hours my legs are beat.  I'll take a nice sit-down show any day.  Met a couple of JB fans-small world story-this show was 75 plus miles from my town, and they were from the town next to mine.  Turns out we have been to a lot of the same Joe shows-stop lurking and join the forum!

Long ride home - but a good chance to listen to the new album at ear-splitting volume - probably scared any moose within a fifty-mile radius, and then a little bit of RAH for the last leg of tonite's journey.

Excellent night - all you folks on the other side of the pond are in for a treat.

Re: Govt Mule cd

Thanks, Sandy, sounds like it was a great night. How long was Mule's set?

I can't wait for the 21st November when I'll be seeing them. wink

Planet Rock currently has a good article on By A Thread, largely taken from band publicity material, but definitely worth a read. They also have a couple of other interesting things wink Read it here: http://www.planetrock.com/govt-mule-by-a-thread.htm

Sorry to hear your pins (legs) are suffering. After seeing Walter last night and also standing for 4 hours, I know what you mean. hmm Mind you, David and I were lucky that we had the barrier in front of the stage to lean on. smile We also had a cowinkydink of the RAH type, but I'll save that for later.

Re: Govt Mule cd

Sounds good, Sandy.  I've seen them quite a few times and they never dissappoint!

Leaving shortly for tonight's show in Upper Darby, PA....promises to be a good 'un.  I'll try and post a review when I get back home tomorrow....no promises.

Happy Mule'O'Ween, everybody!

Thanks a lot for the info - I´ll get that show asap ... will probably only make my anticipation for Nov. 11 grow even more. smile You´re right - what else do you need?? Haha...

Good to hear that you had a great night Sandy ... I fear our gig in Munich will also be standing - but anyway, I will only feel my hurting feet afterwards I guess. wink
