Topic: J-Bone in Chattaboogie!

Gettin' fired up about the show this Thursday, looking to get a pre-show party going at The BWW on Broad before the show; be there in uniform around 7pm and I'll buy you a beer......NOT!

Let's see who's comin' and why! Let's give Joe a reason to come back every year people!
I want our home town to be the f'in' loudest, blues-lovin', "richest fools alive" in his recent memory.

I've seen Joe several times including when he actually "made it rain" while on-stage with his guitar. He is the messiah! Those of you at the Riverbend show in Chattanooga know what I'm talkin' about. What an experience!

Let's make it great for Joe and everybody there.

Cheers,

Honeyboy Blue

I wish I could make it down for the show. I saw him in Louisville earlier this year, and he was on fire.

Re: J-Bone in Chattaboogie!

I really enjoyed the show last night here in Chattanooga, and there were several reasons that I was happily surprised.
First Joe did alot of his older stuff which I respect because people want to hear the songs they know and love. Also it shows he's not just pushing his new record and is working on really growing and pleasing his fan base with his entire discography.

Second, this show, while it totally rocked, had a bit more blues presence than the show I saw in ATL last year;
which felt more like a rock concert. Joe didn't play with his little reverb box and only touched it once that I recall.
In ATL he did a smokin' extra long solo bit with this Gizmo, which was cool, but I was just as happy without it.

Now for a guy that plays hundreds of shows all over the world, Joe talked about the Riverbend show and how it started to rain when he played "Sloe Gin". I was at that show as many in the crowd were and I like that HE remembered it. Maybe Joe is actually reading these forums.....HI JOE! YOUR GREAT!
The funny story about Billy Gibbons seemed like a genuine "aw shucks" moment between one star fading into a supernova and another star on the rise. Classic.
I do wish the show would have been a little longer but that is always the case at a great show.

The sound at the Tivoli was great and it proved Joe's point that he made about playing theaters instead of clubs. Better sound, better stage, better show. The only negative was it was tough to jump around in the theater but at the end of the night we hit the floor and rushed the stage anyway.

I had read one post about the Knoxville show the guy said he thought Joe's voice was "road worn"; I didn't feel that way at all; in fact I thought the slower bluesier set was highlighted by his vocals and it appears to me he has really been working on that side of his game. I felt his singing has improved and was as solid as ever, but I do not pretend to know everything.

Now I wish we had given Joe a sold-out show. I want him to come back to us. So instead of whining about how Chattanooga doesn't support live music, I going to join the street team and do my part to get him back. If your a fan reading this in Chattanooga or surrounding area I challenge you to do the same.

Thanks Joe!

Re: J-Bone in Chattaboogie!

honeyboy, thank you for the recap, been waiting all day to hear from somebody there. i would be interested also in the set list if you kept it or know someone who did. you said he played some older stuff and that would be a departure from the previous lists ive seen for this tour, which might also be a better list for Bham. i am not tired of the DVD yet, however i also appreciate his older music. i noticed last night watching the DVD for only the second time, they got Patty on a backstage camera pass in the first row during JH. i would also be like to hear the funny story about BG. thanks again, it sounds like another great concert from JB. makes me wish i could hit the lotto, buy a bus, and just chase him from city to city.

Re: J-Bone in Chattaboogie!

Sorry no set list, I didn't have pencil & paper in my pocket, but I did have an asspocket o' whisky. I was happiest to hear Hearts/nickels because he didn't play that in either of the previous shows I had seen and I love that song when he sings it.

The Billy Gibbons story would best be told by Joe........., but I'll try to paraphrase.

Last year at Riverbend in Chattanooga we had the privledge of having J-Bone & ZZ play during the same festival, could've been the same night but I'm guessing it wasn't. Who remembers. What I do know is that Joe played a great show and I was thrilled to see him play. Turns out he's from upstate and many of my wife's family are fans/friends. They had schooled me Joe and I had become a big fan. As I was already a long time blues listener.

So the encore at the JB show was a "Pocketful o' Change" a great ZZ song. From the set lists I have read I guess ZZ is one of his regular montage-encore songs. So as JB is exiting the stage here in Chattanooga he walks right into Billy Gibbons, who had obviously came down to see Joe's show. So JB is like "Hey man I hope you didn't mind me playin' your song"; kind of humbled I guess by one of his idols. In a classic "Spinal Tap" moment Billy is like " What did you play"?

Hey this is Rock & roll Baby. Billy is a genius but I wouldn't let him drive me home.:D

So that my friends is the truth, so tell me, if you're Sicilian "Am I lying"?

Your an eggplant!
