Topic: Favourite Stevie Ray Vaughan songs and why?

Right now I really love the harsh crunchy ones like his version of

crosscut saw  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqMNwOz3hgQ

and

shake for me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNciFfSQ5Jo

The tone is eargasmic!

also hideaway/rude mood an empty arms, just cos they're awesome.

Re: Favourite Stevie Ray Vaughan songs and why?

I have posted my 3 favourite over in "what are you listening to....", but i will gladly post again here.
      1) Little Wing
      2) Tin Pan Ally ( aka Roughest Place In Town)
      3) Testify (Live)

Like Tripod said, no explanation really needed.....

I'm pissed i never got to see him live!

PS: I will also add, 'Love Struck Baby', because it is impossible, not to get up and move whenever it comes on...
( there is a funny punch line to that..... but, make your own up!!!! smile)

Just superb SRV!!

Re: Favourite Stevie Ray Vaughan songs and why?

Had a case of Deja Voodoo today. I had a job in Wisconsin not far from East Troy (where SRV died). Now I have about 4500 songs loaded on my IPod (and a lot of it is SRV). As I'm driving down the Rock Freeway (I-43) and about 10 miles out from East Troy I get back to back SRV tunes, Texas Flood and Voodoo Chile (slight return) with the IPod in shuffle mode. Spooky s***!

Re: Favourite Stevie Ray Vaughan songs and why?

I love everything Stevie laid down, but In Step really moved me as the content of that album was all about him putting his life back in order only to have it snatched away. Tightrope is the defining track IMO on that brilliant effort.

Re: Favourite Stevie Ray Vaughan songs and why?

Life By The Drop is one I always think of, not because it represents Stevie's usual style, but it's a great song to remember him by.

Like ohiodawg my favourite album is In Step and I love Tightrope, his cover of Buddy Guy's Leave My Girl Alone - a great slow blues, and Willie Dixon's let Me Love You. My friend's band used to open their sets with it, a great starting song! smile

Re: Favourite Stevie Ray Vaughan songs and why?

Ok this is lame but Texas Flood is my favorite.  Why?  I think SRV has better out there but what I find cool about this song and the whole album was it was all recorded live in a wear house with some studio equipment.  They were going for just some demo's just to get a freakin' record deal when all of a sudden the album was put out!  Demo's?  Screw that!  SRV just put his soul into it and it was all of a sudden better then everybody else at the time, Period!  Thats why Texas Flood will forever be my favorite because who else was man enough to put out a CD of demos and make a career out of it?

Re: Favourite Stevie Ray Vaughan songs and why?

I've always thought Crossfire was a great tune. It's probably not Stevie's most remembered song but I just love the groove in it. Always gets me going.

In total agreement with you there Tripod. How about a little of the Master at work?

Can you imagine how much more influence Stevie would have spread had is life not come to such a tragic ending? The one artist that I'm sorry to say, I never got to see perfom live. RIP Stevie.....

I knew i'd hear from you sooner or later on this one big_smile

Yeah the intro to couldnt stand the weather has to rate a ten on the scale of zero to eargasmic. the bit at about 0.55  just before he goes into the verse is the best.

I don't always agree with Tripod - but,he is on the money with his choice!
And thanks to Roy for the Clip, i hadn't seen it before.  The moment the camera pulled back to see the audience, .... if it weren't for Stevie's playing.... you could of heard a pin drop!! Just Superb! I wish the quality of this clip was all over YouTube... sadly It's not, and It's why i complain a lot about it!

Re: Favourite Stevie Ray Vaughan songs and why?

Hey Brack,

That clip is taken from SRV and Double Trouble "Live from Austin, Texas":

http://www.amazon.com/Stevie-Ray-Vaugha … =1-1-spell

It's actually from the television show "Austin City Limits". He appeared on this program twice. Once, when he was younger and battling his addiction to alcohol/cocaine. There are I think, three songs from that show. The rest is from his second appearance after he conquered his addiction and it is quite evident from his physical appearance, the difference between the two shows. However, once Stevie hit the stage, the music just flowed from him. I remember our friend Joebeacon telling me he had met Stevie a couple of times and that even if Stevie was higher than a kite, he still went out and performed flawlessly.

I personally own this DVD and his "Live at the El Mocambo" DVD and both are just excellent. I'd recommend both to any SRV fans! smile
