Re: "It might get loud"...

Any recent of footage of Page is like gold-plated caviar on a hen's tooth for me.

I don;t see your point here Eva, music comes in many different ways. This sounds like a good example of showing how different approaches on the same instrument can yield such different results.

That´s what I said in my next posts as well. The first post was just a wee bit ironic in order to provoke a discussion ...

I do think that Jimmy´s skills are above the level of the other two though. That´s my opinion and I´m sticking to it. wink

Dave - I think I need a translation for the above post.

I have yet to see the film, but don't have a problem with the selection of guitarists.  Page has been a legend since the first Zep album, Edge has never been one of my faves but U2 is a huge band of our generation and Jack White is a present day stud with a ton of talent (just wish he'd stop playing in so many different bands/genres and focus on a couple).

I think we get hung up on skills a little too much. The point should be that someone can take a guitar and make it sound good. Seasick Steve does a good Job of this while having limited skills. Neil Young would be another not very skilled but fantastic player. The point I'm making I suppose is that the Edge has his sound, Jack White has his. I'll say again we all get hung up on skills and technique. All though these are important there are many artists out there who have minimum skills and technique but are very good to listen to.

Yes, we can agree on that. smile
I tried to explain in one longer post on page 1 what it is about Jimmy Page/Led Zeppelin that I´m missing in the other two and that´s actually not based on skills. It is a subjective thing though ... other people might feel the same way about U2 or the White Stripes. If you look at technique, Joe Satriani probably has a better technique than Jimmy Page - but the result is not the same for me ... it´s a commonplace that music is more about the feeling than about the technique, but still it´s true. The good mixture of technique and feeling is what makes a good song for me ...

Seasick Steve - I love watching what he does, but I can´t say that I´m listening to the album too often..

That is a fair comment that I def agree with. Music is in the feeling and a little technique helps.

here you go Eva, - as the "Might get loud" trailer features Jack White making a Diddley Bo, -

Seasick Steve was on Jools Hollands music programe "later" this week playing his Diddly Bo, - that actual piece does not look to have been pirated onto MoooTube yet but sure it won't be long!

Re: "It might get loud"...

Eva & Fuzz,

Let me start by saying you two are both right and no one ever needs to apologise for what they like to listen to.  All three of the guitarists are worthy musicians.  I like Page the most too, but his best work doesn't register for most young people.

Haha, thanks Ian - that´s awesome. lol Seasick Steve gets a whole lot of attention lately ... maybe just because he´s SO "anti" to Lollypop-Disneyworld Popmusic, reducing everything to the minimum and still making it sound that good in the end. He´s nearly too "real" to be real ... wink

And Curby, I just love your signature line - that hits the nail on the head. That was maybe off-topic now, but anyway...

Re: "It might get loud"...

I thought I heard on the radio today that this film is out in the UK in January?? Anybody else confirm? Why such a delay for us in the UK?

I heard that too. The way this movie came out is quite odd. But still nothing here in Belgium, I'm glad Germany isn't too far and that I could see it a while ago big_smile
