Re: Davy Knowles & Back Door Slam - UK dates - announced

A wonderful recap of the night Phil! So glad you enjoyed the show even with it being a little short. Usually the guys play much longer than that , so I'm sure it was the equipment trouble. In any case, I knew you would enjoy hearing them live and I'm also very pleased to hear that the place was packed. I'm sure any entertainer loves to see and feel the crowd's energy, especially in a smaller venue. After reading a book about Rory Gallagher, he too loved playing the smaller venues for that same reason. The feeling of being WITH the crowd! wink

I hope Davy does make it back soon and maybe for an extended tour into places like Germany, Ireland and Scotland. Might as well give the entire UK a taste! Davy did say yesterday they have their show on the Island on the 12th and then it's off to Australia for them. Such a life, hey? smile

Yeah - great gig - and great report from our resident reporter, Phil - it would be nice to know why they played what seemed a short set - we were all looking at out watches at 10pm thinking "that can't be it", then Davey came back on for the encore and after a few minutes his amp packed up so that was it - lets assume he was probably going to do a 30 minute encore!! lol - never mind, a great night all the same........by the way, we all thought the support guy was very good too - what was his name again, Phil?????

Some video, just uploaded and takes time to render. Hope quality is ok, have not watched it yet. So if you get 2 nuns and a midget, forgive me wink
The gig was short but excellent, Davey and his band are on fine form. Just uploading some vids will post links when done. Great see Ian, Michael, Simon and Phil. I reckon we between us we could bag center spot at any gig. Support guy was god, nice Lyrics biut needs to stop mumbling when advertising himself (or wear a shirt with his name on!)

Good to hear about the show from you honored Londoners (and not-Londoners as well wink) ... and thanks for the video impressions Martin. I´m sure our Michael has some more videos up his sleeve, right?!

I remember Joe mentioning at the RAH that the "Borderline" was the frist club he played in London. So place your bets how long it´s gonna take Davy to get to the sacred Hall. wink First he´s gonna have to tour Europe for a little bit longer though. Hope there´s some more dates next time ...

There were just a few more in the Borderline last night than the 60 who turned out to see Joe's first time Eva.
They were climbing up the walls to get a good view past me and Eldo! lol

Nice review Phil, I'm not long back home, and just about to upload my pics onto the PC (to check the focus - not sure if the beers I had before the gig were a good idea wink )

Roy - you wanted to know what we thought of Ty's addition on keyboards. I have to say I was very impressed. There was some real nice interplay with Davy, and generally it filled the sound out really nicely throughout. The boy sure knows how to tinkle those ivorys. (Also spared Davy's blushes somewhat when he kept things going a for a while when the amp blew!)

First time seeing Davy for me - he's a natural - looks so at home on stage. As has already been said, the set was a lttle short, but not on quality cool . Great bunch of guys too.

Great to meet up with Martin, Michael, Eldo, and Wooders again. Till the next time boys..........

That's great to hear Ian! Also, I noticed on Martin's video I could see the back of Michael's head coming in and out of view. Front row standing just like I thought! wink

While you're uploading your pics, a person on the BDS forum posted a link to a video showing Davy performing with Chickenfoot taken September 27th. Hold onto your chairs for some great guitar work between Davy and Joe Satriani. wink

Re: Davy Knowles & Back Door Slam - UK dates - announced

Thanks for the review Phil. I've got my ticket to see him here in Melbourne on the 20th and I can't wait.

I have just 're-discovered' Blues music this year, so I have been overloading on JB, Davy Knowles and some of the other great acts that get a mention here. I check the tour page every day hoping for an Oz tour by JB, but for now Davy will do just nicely.

You know I've read it elsewhere, but nice review Phil! Glad to hear you got to talk to Davy for a while too! smile

Re: Davy Knowles & Back Door Slam - UK dates - announced

Thanks for compliments everyone. Davy’s PR liked it too and passed it to his team. yikes

As I had asked Davy just before he stepped on stage how long he was going to play for, I was probably the only one who wasn’t surprised at the brevity of the set. As he told me “about an hour” I suppose we were lucky to get an extra 15 minutes!

Still, as has been said above it was definitely quality over quantity. wink

Thanks for posting the youtube links guys. Have only seen images so far and will have to wait till later for sound.

Davy really rocked hard and was up for this his first show back in England for years
Pretty sharp sound considering the muggy acoustics @ The Borderline
He really is very very good and quite easily one of The UK's primo Rock/Blues acts ... EASILY

(so many US/Europpean folks wanted to see/hear Davy 1st show in UK)

Here's a mini taster ... Enjoy wink

Not bad Michael, especially considering the PA was hung from the ceiling and we were right below it! roll lol

I got a few decent stills, despite the poor lighting.

Really great vdeos and pictures Michael and Ian, felt like I was there!! Glad you all really enjoyed the show. Too bad the amp blew though, I guess Davy felt pretty bad about it.

Re: Davy Knowles & Back Door Slam - UK dates - announced

Those were some decent videos Michael, considering the venue....happy to hear you and Davy could chat.....my neighbor had the chance to see Davy and Chickenfoot and he lived up to the hype I was throwing down.....the video of Davy trading licks with Satriani is spine tingling on "Bad Motor Scooter", if yall get the chance to check it out....I hear his rising stardom hasnt changed him a bit, didnt expect it would....
