Topic: Lynyrd Skynyrd - God & Guns

Came out Tuesday. Got my copy yesterday. Kicks major booty. Best thing by Skynyrd since original band. Song writing help and contibutions from John 5, Rob Zombie and the Warren Brothers. Good stuff Maynard.

When I was a child I spoke as a child, But all I heard was how I should get ahead,
Now growing up it ain't anything but all This indecision with these debts and doubts
And worries hanging over my head. When I was a child I spoke as a child,
I wish I could remember what I said.

Really good CD, been listening to it for a while now. The single out on the radio 'Unbroken' is probably my favorite from the album. It's odd to see all these older bands (i.e. KISS, Skynyrd) coming out with new material! Hope they keep em' coming.

Re: Lynyrd Skynyrd - God & Guns

Yes, the very nice man from DHL came-a-calling today with a little package. 'God & Guns' and some DVD by that Bonamassa fella.

But lets talk Skynyrd. I'm not gonna lie to ya, as I haven't followed them for a while. Didn't catch them on their last Eurotour either. Classic Rock mag put 'Still Unbroken' on one of their sampler CD's last month and it blew my socks off. I thought if the rest of the album could be that good I would have to have it.

So here it is, gatefold CD with a bonus disc all for 10 quid. Am I pleased or what? This album is excellent. Well written, well played, well produced and well good. At just over 3minutes 'Simple Life' was made for radio airplay. Can some of our US fans tell me if this was a massive hit? If not, why not?

Really, I can't find any fault with this album. Yes, there is some slight political angles to a couple of the songs, but if these guys haven't earned the right to air their views who has?

I can't wait to try this in the car. Some great driving music on there and live its going to be just enormous. Skynyrd Nation will bring the house down and God and Guns combines swamp and stadium rock. I love it.

Some could have dismissed this as 'who needs to hear a new Lynyrd Skynyrd album?' - well, they will be missing a trick. This is a band that IS still unbroken and long may they remain so.

ps - as soon as I played that sampler track to my bandmates it was 'we gotta do that' such was the impact. We're hoping to roll it out on Saturday week and turn a little corner of Niedersachsen into Skynyrd Nation.

Buy this album. It rocks

Heard two new songs on 9/11, but with 10 shots o' Jack & the beer chasers I wasn't totally clear on the names of the tunes, but they were well received by the SRO crowd. It was obvious they were new songs since the crowd wasn't singing along which they do with the old hits. Another CD by the current line-up titled Twenty is outstanding and Vicious Cycle has it's moments too.

is Ricky Medlocke still the front man? Saw him a few times with Blackfoot, - great entertainer.

Well Johnny VZ is the front man if you will, but Medlocke, Rossington and Matejka form the main guitar axis these days. J. Dawg is probably the man to ask on the entertainment front 'cos I think he's seen 'em recently.

They sure sound damn good!

yes, of course he is, sorry memory fade and I was being too lazy to engage the devils spawn that is Google wink

Must be quite an interesting stage with Medlocke not being the center of attention, - he had a big stage persona all those years ago when I saw him, - and not a bad guitarist.

Got me a copy last Fri. and I agree with the Rev., it kicks butt. The store I got it at had both options, the single studio disc and the double disc which includes 3 more great new tunes as well as Red, White, & Blue, Call Me The Breeze, & Sweet Home Alabama from some recent "live" shows. The 3 extra tracks aren't from the cutting room floor by any means, in fact I dig them more than some of the tracks on the single disc. The first tune to stick in my head was Southern Ways, an autobiographical salute to the bands history with an unmistakable Sweet Home Alabama rythym to it.

As far as Rickey is concerned, he may not be "THE" frontman for the band, but he's the head cheer leader who whips the crowd up as he shreads up the parts Allen Collins used to play. Gary just lays back and cooks on his Les Paul, at this point in his career he's got nothing to prove since he is considered one of the Godfathers of Southern Rock. Mark is a great fill guy and had some huge shoes to fill when Hughie left in'05 to resurrect the Outlaws(RIP Hughie).
