Topic: PRS Benefit, Rams Head Live, TOMORROW 10/4, only $10!

I know Tarus52 mentioned this a while back... anyone here going?  I've had it "penciled in" but I'm still undecided as of now.  At that price for those bands it should be a no-brainer for me... it's just that I've been doing a LOT of shows lately and have a lot more coming up.  In fact, if I go, that'll be 5 days of shows in a row for me!  All 5 shows either free or very cheap, and 3 even local, but it's still extra money spent on food/drinks/gas, I'm sure the hubby's tolerance is wearing thin, plus I'm TIRED, lol.  Still, if I knew for sure I'd have somebody to hang with there, I'd probably go.  Would be even cooler if I had somebody to ride down with too.  So, anybody else doing this show?

Re: PRS Benefit, Rams Head Live, TOMORROW 10/4, only $10!

Unfortunately I will not be making this show today... ONLY because my car started leaking antifreeze pretty badly last night, and I of course can't get it into a shop til Mon.  I tried to talk my son into it... thought he and his girlfriend would be into a good cheap blues show, and I would've covered his gas... but he "didn't feel like a concert today"... hmm  I just asked my husband about using his vehicle and his answer was "fat chance"... he does not support my concert habit and is happy I can't go... hmm  Well, good thing this wasn't something I'd already bought tickets for, because I'm stuck here. sad

If anybody goes, please post a report, thanks.

Re: PRS Benefit, Rams Head Live, TOMORROW 10/4, only $10!

In three words "short and sweet".

Beginning the night with the Paul Reed Smith Band, featuring the very able sibling rhythm section of the Grainger Brothers (Gary and Greg),  Mike Ault on rhythm & lead guitar, and Paul himself darting in and out of the formation, they supported Derek St. Holmes (of the early incarnations of Ted Nugent's band), Orianthi (search the forum for previous posts on this talented and attractive young lady, who was recently scheduled to be the tour lead guitarist for Michael Jackson's upcoming tour), Davy Knowles of Back Door Slam, and Myles Kennedy (formerly of Alter Bridge) through a number of long jams familiar and otherwise (including "Hey Baby", "Stranglehold", "Immigrant Song" and Zep's "Rock 'n Roll".  Each of the guests sat in for a song or two and then vamoosed.

Next up, the absolutely amazing Johnny Hiland and his band, ran through a 4-song set featuring some rocking songs ala Satriani and some high-octane country numbers including Merle Haggard's "Honky Tonk Nighttime Man" and the bluesgrass classic "Orange Blossom Special".  If you EVER get a chance to see this guy perform live...don't breathe, just GO!

To close the night out, the talented and entertaining Davy Knowles returned to the stage with his own band and did a short but awesome set, including "Riverbed", "Tear Down the Walls" and "Searching" from the new album, a scorching rendition of Rory's version of Jr. Wells' "Messin' with the Kid", the always killer version of CSNY's "Almost Cut My Hair", and closed out the night (I think...we left, had a very long drive home on a Sun night) with Neil Young's "Cortez The Killer" featuring Paul Reed Smith on lead guitar.....all I can say is "Wow"!

In addition to the amazing entertainment, around 15 PRS SE guitars, either autographed by famous people or decorated by graphic or "aerosol" artists fetched anywhere from $600 to over $3000 in live auctions, benefiting the Kimmel Cancer Center of the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

All in all, a great night for a great cause.

What a wonderful account of the night, Carl... I really appreciate it.  Wish I could've been there.  Although if it was short, maybe it's best I didn't drive 1/12 hours for it... that's what I'm telling myself anyway, lol. wink tongue
