Topic: Before the Frost...Until the Freeze by the Black Crowes

I know we have a few fellow Crowes fans here on the board, but this is for those that aren't.  Do yourself a favor and go out and get the album.  It's a double, but for the price of one album.  Comes with a download code for the second.  Great, great stuff.  Best Crowes album in about 12 years.  Something for everyone, funk, blues, country, and some real rockers.  Saw um at the Stone Pony a few nights ago, and they were just awesome as always.  The news stuff is great to hear live.  Check out this video, of their new song on Letterman.

Sure Chris Robinson may not be much of a dresser, but he kills it with the rest of the band.  Luther Dickinson from the North Mississippi All Stars is a great addition.

Re: Before the Frost...Until the Freeze by the Black Crowes

I'd have to put the new album their third best (behind the first two releases) for commercial appeal.  For musicianship though I'd have to put  Before the Frost...Until the Freeze as their finest.  The album didn't slap me in the face right away, but it's a grower and is well on its way to masterpiece status.  I absolutely love the album's Country/Americana songs and you're right Chris - the album does have something for everyone.
The Crowes are back Baybee!

Re: Before the Frost...Until the Freeze by the Black Crowes

I really like this album, both of them, but do not find it as rocking or radio friendly as Warpaint.

When I was a child I spoke as a child, But all I heard was how I should get ahead,
Now growing up it ain't anything but all This indecision with these debts and doubts
And worries hanging over my head. When I was a child I spoke as a child,
I wish I could remember what I said.

Re: Before the Frost...Until the Freeze by the Black Crowes

Chris,

I've been listening to the album alot and it just keeps growing on me.  The Black Crowes are one of the best bands going these days and instead of reworking the same material they just keep exploring different genres that appeal to them.

A little OT: I've been listening to Medusa Stone's self-titled album that has, among other band influences, an unmistakenable early Black Crowes vibe to it.  Definitely one of my favorite discoveries this year even though the album had a 2004 release.

Re: Before the Frost...Until the Freeze by the Black Crowes

I really like the album. It was recorded at Levon Helm's studio in Woodstock, and I think it has a "Band" flavor to it. It is a very musical album, with everyone playing at the top of their game.

Thanks for the post. I agree, best Crowes album in years. Hope to see them live someday

Re: Before the Frost...Until the Freeze by the Black Crowes

Glad some of you are enjoying it.  I love the Band sound too it too.  Luther Dickinson really kills it on this one.  The second album is also petty good.  Nice chill music...very folky.
