Re: Joe, Derek Trucks, Old Man Brown at Hot August Blues in Md. !!!

Great show and Hot in more than one way!!!  Didn't get a chance to meet allot of forum members. Probably because we spent most of our time in the woods up on the hill trying to stay cool.  Anyway here is a compilation of all my video clips from the fest.  Wish there were more but my memory card filled up:(

I tried to capture some of my fellow forum members getting into the music.  Enjoy

couldn't find quarryman or blueshand sorry looked for you and spoke to a number of folks with Joe shirts trying

let me just say how much Had To Cry Today completely totally rocked. of course it was a song i had not expected in the set, as my previous comments a week or whatever ago meant to imply but after a good 8 hours of draft beer i don't think i got across the way i wanted to Joe as i think what little tiny words i typed got misconstrued (look at big word 12 hours of beer). mumble! dang it tongue i've been trying to lay off the constant posting esp the 'trying to explain what I meant posts blahblah i swear geebus it was a set list thing

really glad to hear Quarryman which was way way awsome and i wasn't sure if it would be in the set. all the songs were great and woke up dreaming was pretty darn fast i do say. last kiss and lonesome road blues real great and nice memory of Mountain Time solo perfectumndo historical in the land.
anyway Cockeysville, MD has been Bonabaptised
everyone loved the Joe Bonamassa Band for sure

i didn't go to after party at high tops

they actually 'sold out' only cause the field of parking was full. big crowd for the fest
hot as heck till the sun went down

i didn't actually see it because while slightly distracted i missed Joe jamming with Derek and band

thanks for coming Joe & co.

more later!!!!

It was a great concert! I am not sure I made myself very visible. If you saw a guy with a straw hat and and a Pandora tee shirt on, that was me. I did sit up by the rope for the entire show. I saw folks with Bonabuddies tags on, did that represent the folks from here? Joe was so great. It was so hot. I got there at the end of Chopteeth, and there last song was very good. The Batala thing was cool, up to a point. The next band from Alabama, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit... Blues? What were they doing there? Southern Rock I guess, which is not my style. If you are going to have a bluesfest, please, please, please, only have BLUES bands!
I only stayed through a few songs of Derek's band. I just did not want to deal with getting to my vehicle and out of the parking lot. I watched the video that was posted. Thanks for that.
I hope to meet you and the rest of the folks at some point. JB is the best!

Re: Joe, Derek Trucks, Old Man Brown at Hot August Blues in Md. !!!

What an insane day this was.  I don't even know where to start.  It was an unbelievably hot day.  We spent much of it under the pavilion, where it did  seem to be a little cooler.  Carmine and Rick came over and talked to us for a while.  It was great meeting so many bonabuddies from everywhere.  The absolute nicest people you will ever meet.  I was unable to stay for the Derek / Joe jam but I'm so glad it was captured on video.  Joe's show was great.  He played a lot of it out on the lawn in front of the stage. I was lucky enough to get backstage and speak to him for a little while after his show. I also ran into Derek and spoke to him just before he went on stage.  I have pics that I will post later.  I even have one of Derek watching Joe perform from backstage.  Pretty cool.  Jane, thanks so much for the bonabrunch.  It was fabulous.  Woofy, thanks for making the name tags.  They looked great.  I really hope we can do something like this again.  I'm so glad we went.

Re: Joe, Derek Trucks, Old Man Brown at Hot August Blues in Md. !!!

I'm just about speechless!  From getting reacquainted with (new) old friends and putting faces with names who are now (new) new friends,,, heck, you're all family. Better than family actually! LOL!  Gunter, Eva and George coming from Europe; Libby, Rocket and a few others from California; Eric from Colorado; Susan, Ken, Big Jeff and others from Florida... Hey everybody if you could have been there and blew it off, you really blew it. Period. The next time something like this comes together please make every effort to do it if you can! Like others have said, aside from the stifling heat and humidity this was just an incredible get together. Someone told me Joe estimated the crowd at about 2800. It looked to be closer to 5,000 to me. Easily as many as had packed Royal Albert Hall.

And then there was Joe and the band. OMG!!! Un-freaking believable. Once again Joe blew the roof off of the stage. The man was on fire. I have a couple of videos to upload. I'll try to get them online in the morning as I am completely toasted from the long weekend.

Best to all. I love you guys - you're great! Until the next Bonabonanza!!! big_smile

An extra special big hug for sister Cate for opening her home to a bunch of us!

This is nice because I had to leave Derek's set after that song. I hate having to leave early sad

srxman2001 any chance you had a white Joe t with the red and black oval from the ANDY days (I have one but i got it off ebay)? I saw someone headed up  the hill and i wanted to say i liked their shirt but didn't see home again.
anyway thanks for the video

blueshand yeah that was alot in our group. I only went up front for Joe. I didn't get there till a touch after noon and I couldn't believe how many people were there already but the group had already reserved space up front and Paul and group and Carl had some canopy tent things in another area that was an awesome set up and great spot and made room for my local friends too.

I don't think they expected as many people as there were there and the parking did fill up. There were not enough food vendors for the people wanting food to be able to get something without a really long line after a while.

No rain but it did get pretty hottttt but Tom, IMO that was not humid...

GREAT to see everyone that I did. Still I feel like I hardly got a chance to talk to anyone or anywhere near as long as I would liked to have. It was really great to see everyone esp. those i got to hang with yesterday and hope we get together agin. Hope everyone's travels are well.

I only bought one t-shirt but I have a tote bag from the fest too. and a poster Joe signed for me.

so anyway they have this area roped off up front i thought was supposed to be for standing /dancing but they cleared it out when we went there and said it was a walkway but pretty soon they couldn't keep the Joe fans away but we did sit for a while until Joe motioned us to stand. Thanks for that Joe.

also in the video by Doug you see Joe jamming up on a little platform where a few of the staff were. He went over there and made them move after they made Melissa move from where she was taking pics, which was not in anyone's way. I am grateful for all the volunteers there though but it was very unnecessary some of the rules. and thanks for that Joe too it was cool.

lots of Joe shirts there

I also talked to a guy with a Rory shirt on who was cool

Vortex thanks for the email i lost your phone number call me if you still have mine or i will email back eventually. i hope i didn't miss you there and I have your name tag along with a few others.

Joe we'd love to hear the story about the Joe face artwork it is pretty cool looking.

i don't know the exact set list but i just copied this from the penns peak show and took out Happier Times

they played all of this but not this order i think

Ballad of John Henry
So It's Like That
Last Kiss
So Many Roads
Further on Up the Road
Sloe Gin
Lonesome Road Blues
Had to Cry Today
Great Flood
Woke Up Dreaming
Just Got Paid
Ball Peen Hammer
Story of a Quarryman
Mountain Time

yeah there was a rumor going around that Joe might start early we figured to hopefuuly get more songs in but there was a good number of folks who were only concerned with getting there in time for Joe's set so i can see that threw people for a loop

more later

Thanks Jane for the great update, sounds like a cool time in Hot August for everyone.  Really wished we could have made to hang out with you again.  Looking forward to watching Joe and Derek jam, going to watch it this morning.

Sorry I'm so late in posting..just now able to get a turn at the computer. It was a wonderful gathering...and continues to prove what great folks J.B. fans are. I've yet to meet a forum friend that disappointed me. ALL lovely people. Permanent friends, without a doubt. I have a feeling these group meetings will continue for a long time. If any non-forum folks (lurkers) feel odd..please don't. Feel free to talk to any J.B. Shirt wearer. I hope nobody ever feels uninvited.

The venue was beautiful and I think the organizers have gotten the message as far as who pulls in the crowds..Never had a sell-out before. Fingers crossed they'll invite Joe back to headline next year. Thanks to  Joe and Company for coming into the crowd to visit with their fans...another reason we are so devoted.

Now it's just G, Libby and myself. We just sent Eva and Gunter off to NY City..pray for them..lol..
I think I'm having "empty-nest" syndrome.

Remember, my doors are always opened to Bonabuddies!! Love to all and thanks for a wonderful time!!!!

P.S. I think the new Gibson Firebird is stunning!!!              Cathy

Does anyone know the story on the paper mache likeness of Joe mounted in front of Rick's setup? Is Rick the artist? A very good likeness I thought!
