Topic: Gov't Mule in D.C. tomorrow... anyone going?

Gov't Mule is playing at National Harbor Pavilion in Washington D.C. tomorrow night, Thurs 7/30, and I'm trying to figure out if I'm going or not.  My brother called me the other day and told me he and a buddy are going, and I'm welcome to ride along, I just have to buy a ticket.  They're only $16.50 in advance with a $3.50 service fee, or $20 at the gate with no service fee (so it's the same difference)... and I just called and was told they don't expect it to sell out as long as you get there at a decent time.  It's an outdoor show, rain or shine (only the stage is under roof)... they were calling for scattered & isolated thunderstorms that whole day, but I just checked again and it's looking MUCH better now.  I've been waiting for a chance to see Mule again (only been to 2 shows so far), and between the ride, the low-priced ticket (although if I would've bought earlier through Mule's site, it would've only been $12.50, grrr, lol), and now the improved weather forecast, I'm thinking "I'm there!"  But I am brewing a cold and my ears are stopped up, ugh... so that could play into my decision, depending on how I feel by then.

So anyway, I was just wondering if anybody else here is going, or could be persuaded into going?  hehe wink

Technically, this show is in MD, but they're calling it D.C.  And it appears they will allow lawn chairs.

I was reading down the list of items NOT permitted at this venue... let's see...

knives
razors
all chains
studded items (ie. belt, necklace)
mace
tasers
guns
large belt buckles
cheese graters
baseball bats

Wait... CHEESE GRATERS??!!  lol  I mean I know I've inadvertently nicked myself on them plenty of times, but are they really used as weapons?  Am I behind the times here?  Oh, the mental image!  LOL  tongue roll

And somehow it reminds me of this funny pic, lol... lol

Hey Vikki,

I see they didn't exclude bazookas, so I guess they really aren't that restrictive. wink

P.S. Poor kid, wait until he gets to the bottom of that slide. Talk about a cheese butt! lol

Vikki,

Let us know how the line-up is with new bass player.

I was a little underwhelmed with Allen Woody's replacement.

Hoping Jorgen brings some spark to the group.

The Boys are coming to the West Coast in September, so have front row for The Britt Festival in Jacksonville, Oregon.

Enjoy the show.

Meant to report back sooner, sorry.  It was a great show, we all really enjoyed it... nice mix of originals and cool covers, as usual.  I think they're still rockin it just fine with the new bass player.  Hell, they even made Nirvana's "About a Girl" sound good, lol.  I think the highlight of the night was during the encore when they played Leonard Cohen's often-covered "Hallelujah"... simply beautiful... probably the best rendition I've heard since Jeff Buckley's.  Here's the entire setlist:

Set 1
Hammer & Nails
Thorazine Shuffle
Banks of the Deep End
Rocking Horse
I'll Be The One
Streamline Woman
Brand New Angel
Inside Outside Woman Blues

Set 2
Wasted Time
The Shape I'm In
She Said, She Said > Tomorrow Never Knows
Fallen Down > The Other One Jam, Gimme Shelter tease
Drums
Kind of Bird
I'm a Ram

Encore:
Hallelujah
About a Girl

And here's a link to download, if anybody's interested... I don't know this taper, but he has fairly decent mics and my brother downloaded it and said it sounds pretty good...

By the way, the weather treated us just fine... it was hot, but no rain, and the sunset over the Potomac was beautiful.  I also managed to snag a ticket outside the gate for $10, yay.  I meant to give security a hard time at the gate... was gonna tell them I left my cheese grater at home, but would my vegetable peeler be alright... but alas, I forgot, haha.  I did ask one security guy about the cheese grater thing later on... he had no clue, but we had a good laugh over it, lol. lol tongue
