Topic: CarljMD's band...Built4Comfort

Well, folks....finally got some half-decent video from my band's first gig up on YouTube.....here's a link to the band's channel (I think).  I would welcome comments and constructive criticism.

If you look through, there may be one rather familiar song that I hope we didn't butcher too badly.  Don't expect any great guitar performance....and you won't be disappointed.

Be kind....it's our first gig and it's with a substitute bass player who we barely practiced with.

Carl,

I think your band sounds GREAT!!!  And I'm not just being polite, I mean it...being a big Bonnie fan, I do really like Love Me Like A Man.  Keep having fun and good luck with your band. smile

Well, Big Jeff....considering all of your less-than-glowing comments about guitarists in general....I take that as a MAJOR compliment.   It ain't fancy, but to my ears..it sounds like "da blues".   I hope we can work out the details of a proper jam without driving the witch crazy.....looking forward to it.

Not at the moment, but I've always wanted to do "The Pain".....love that song, though it's tough to play....very similar chord progression to Joe's take on "If Heartaches Were Nickels".  It's supposed to be a blues band, so we'll see.

Good to hear from you Ron....haven't seen much of ol' PT lately either...seems to have forsaken the Mid-Atlantic region. <sigh>

It's a compliment.  I probably ought to explain that a little bit.  I REALLY admire and love a good musician who has the chops to play his instrument with feeling and collaborate in a musical statement (Tight is right).  I am humbly in awe of such artists, including guitarists.    Often a simple statement is the most profound.  HOWEVER... sad

Rock n Roll (and blues) being what it is, there is thrust upon (us) me a plethora of pretenders, a self centered, masturbory mob of macho-gay wankers, united only in their quest to out-cocky one another.  It's not limited to youth, either.

Boring... roll

I'm told it's me.  That I'm psychotic and unrealistic.  OK! big_smile

I just told my latest guitarist to go home, cutting short rehearsal.  My time is not the time for him to figure out licks.  There is homework (carrying your own weight) and group work (rehearsal)...how snotty of me.  I'm sure there are bass players somewhere who do that...(no work ethic)...but it ain't me.  What gives me a great deal of despair is that it's gone on now for 15 years straight...and 3 dozen guitarists...WTF?

So I say "you're not prepared."  and get an attitude of biblical proportions.  I guess I'm in the wrong part of the world.

It sounds like blues to me, too.  Pyrotechnics is not a full time requirement for blues music.  At the right moment in time, blow me off the stage and I will bow and scrape before you.  just not non-stop with full distortion at volume 10.
