Re: America's Got Talent....Tallan "T-Man" Latz

Tallan was just featured as the "outro" for Access Hollywood.  Seems a lot of people are discovering what all of us here already know - this is one talented kid.  Good luck to Tallan as AGT moves along.

Eric,

I 've seen you playing on your videos and you're an excellent player! Keep praticing and someday all you young guys will be telling Joe B. to move over a little. wink

You know, I just can't believe how many great young players there are out there; many we never hear about. I know Carl, Tallan's dad, told me after they got back from the SRV Ride and Concert last year, that if I thought we had some great players by us, that I should see all of the great young players down in Texas. Needless to say, he was very impressed. Tallan has been invited back to Texas this year for the SRV R and C again and they are very much looking forward to it.

Roy

Well thank you. That SRV R and C sounds cool.

A few people that know called today to ask if I had seen it. They didn't know he was not a secret among the bonamasses. I will just say they were impressed.

I missed it but saw the video. He just keeps getting better. Keep it up Tallan.

Re: America's Got Talent....Tallan "T-Man" Latz

Thanks for all the info and mails, Uncle Roy. lol If Tallan doesn't lose interest in the guitar and keeps practising he's going to be very big, very soon. The link you posted cuts short the additional comments from Sharon O and Tallan's reaction backstage. You can see the full version here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTpwpLg2vnY&NR=1

Going back to the Milwaukee clip, IMO Tallan plays much better than on AGT. It must have been fantastic to be there and see Tallan playing Joe's LP. I can hardly believe it was unrehearsed, it was that good and wonderful that you were there to record it for posterity. big_smile

Re: America's Got Talent....Tallan "T-Man" Latz

Hey Phil,

Thanks for updating that link! smile

I can assure you that the little performance Tallan had with Joe at the end of his Milwaukee show, was just something Joe did on the spur of the moment. We all know how much of a perfectionist Joe is regarding his shows. Of course, that's why we get such great shows every time we see him. Earlier that day, Joe put on a guitar clinic and Tallan, Carl and I were there. Casio Music wanted to get Tallan up with Joe during the clinic, but that didn't pan out. I also inquired if it was possible for Tallan and his Band to open for Joe, but apparently the promoter didn't buy it. Tallan, Carl, Dawn and I sat at a table right next to the Milwaukee stage just left of center and during the show, Joe had tossed down a pick just for Tallan. As we approached the last song, most of us figured it just wasn't going to happen. Then, about half way through "Asking Around For You", Joe bent over and asked me to boost Tallan up at his signal. Well, Tallan just about jumped as high as the stage and I was blown away. And the rest is history......

I wish everyone on this forum could have been there to feel the excitement that night and how touching the end of the show was. wink

Re: America's Got Talent....Tallan "T-Man" Latz

Just got off the phone with Carl Latz and he gve me a little bit more info concerning Tallan's performance. Get this, when Tallan went out on stage, he hadn't even rehearsed the song. Here's what happened.......

When they got to the show, Tallan gave a recording of the song that he would play which had different muscians backing him. The show then records the song with their musicians on tape so they don't have to get releases from the other players. Well, as Tallan and Carl are sitting there waiting to go on Carl says, "We had better listen to what they recorded." Turns out, they screwed up and recorded "Dueling Banjos" from the movie "Deliverance". Well, they had to rush to get the right song recorded and as it turned out, the tempo of the recording was actually faster than what Tallan and Carl gave them. No time to practice and so, Tallan went on and played that version of the song for the first time on National TV! smile

By the way, Carl told me Tallan spilled his Starbucks hot chocolate all over when they got to the show. Kids hey! wink

Re: America's Got Talent....Tallan "T-Man" Latz

That's incredible, Roy!  I actually thought he was winging it and thought to myself, now THAT's the real talent, but would it be a turn-off for the judging?  Perhaps at this stage they are "only" enthralled by T-Man's youth... I have faith he's going to make them look past that as he moves along.  Hopefully EVERYONE will let go of the "he's only x years old" by the time he hits the double digits... When IS that by the way???

Yeah that whole youth thing is tiresome.  Takes nothing away nor adds anything to the amount of talent.

Re: America's Got Talent....Tallan "T-Man" Latz

Hey Rocket,

Yes indeed, he was winging it on stage, but he's done that before. Tallan will turn 10 years old on September 22nd. You know, it's natural that we all concentrate on Tallan's skills, but I know him and his parents in a very different way. I know Tallan as the little boy hs is. Like last year when we were at Summerfest together and him eating a blue popcicle which colored his tongue blue. Or when my son Ben and Tallan where at a hot dog shop in Kenosha acting as young boys do, many times ridiculous. There's also a very kind side to Tallan, always being the upbeat, never down young man that he is. He sees the world differently than many of us do. Of course, he's looking through young eyes; he's a very sweet young man!

One more story about a Tallan meeting. Carl told me yesterday about when they met Joe Satriani for the first time. Tallan went up to Joe to introduce himself and Joe turned around and said, "T-Man, how are you"? Carl and Tallan couldn't believe he knew who Tallan was. So Tallan told Joe how he has watched his videos on Youtube. Well, Joe Satriani told him "That's great, but I watch your videos on Youtube Tallan!". Needless to say, Carl said Joe Satriani is a really great guy.

Speaking of "winging" it, here's another example of it also from this past March when Tallan played with one of his friends, totally unrehearsed:

Re: America's Got Talent....Tallan "T-Man" Latz

Hey Everyone,

I was digging through my recorded DVD's today and found a gem that I forgot I had. Since I bought a new PC, I have been able to upload some recordings that I couldn't before. Well, here is one with Tallan, Hubert Sumlin and the Willie "Big Eyes" Smith Band from September of last year. This performace almost didn't happen as Carl, Tallan and I had left the building figuring Tallan wouldn't get called up to play. But then he did and we sat back down for this performance. Here's some "True Blues" from Tallan, Hubert and Willie:

Re: America's Got Talent....Tallan "T-Man" Latz

I heard on a local radio station today that Tallan will again be on the show tonight. I'll try and get a hold of Carl Latz to see if this is true.

OK, I just confirmed with Carl that Tallan should be on AGT tonight! smile

And he suggested that we all might want to watch. wink

And for those of you in the Milwaukee and surrounding area, Tallan will also be on air on WKLH radio tomorrow morning.

Re: America's Got Talent....Tallan "T-Man" Latz

Talk about anticlimactic! How can they fly people out to Vegas only to dismiss them? When I saw Tallan a couple of weeks ago, he told me that he made it through the first show, but that he didn't make it through Vegas. Hard to believe after the initial reaction of the judges and the crowd when he was in Houston, that they let him go with others without a performance. Oh well, the T-Man did get some great exposure from the show.

And you know what? I for one, am very proud of him!! smile Wish you all knew him as I do.....he's a great young man! wink

Re: America's Got Talent....Tallan "T-Man" Latz

I just got home after a root canal...turned on AGT and got ready....then...ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!! I am spitting nails!!! Tallan has more talent that the majority of contestants....dog and pony acts!!! I've already given him some lovin' on his facebook page. I encourage others to do likewise. He may have an old blues man inside his soul, he's also just a kid. I know this hurts and it's hard to explain to him how irrelevant winning AGT is to his future. At least he got his name out there in a big way.....He's only just begun....     Auntie Cate

Re: America's Got Talent....Tallan "T-Man" Latz

This show may have some talent, but it certainly has no taste.

Tallan - great job!  Keep it up, you will go far!
