Topic: Suwalki Blues festival 17/07/2009

After the tremendous show of JB in Vilnius, Lithuania back in May I decided to visit that one. Suwalki is just about 200km distance from Vilnius. I was surprised that the entry to the main shows of JB and Ten Years After were for free, the event was probably financed by the government of the town. It reminded me a bit more of a usual town weekend event where families with small kids can meet together, walk through the town and enjoy the warm summer weather which was actually really warm, about 25-30 C degrees. I think 2/3 of all people didn't even know anything about JB or Ten Years After, but believe me, it was a really impressive both performers introduction to the town and that region residents. The rest 1/3 of the whole audience really knew what is happening here, so they enjoyed both JB on Friday and Ten Years After on Saturday as festival headliners. Here is JB list:

The Ballad Of John Henry
So It's Like That
Last Kiss
So Many Roads
Further Up On The Road
Sloe Gin
Storry Of A Quarryman
Lonesome Road Blues
Your Funeral My Trial
Blues Deluxe
Just Got Paid

************

India/Mountain Time

The sound was pretty good, there were only small problems, I think some mud in the guitar sound, at the beginning of the show. Both shows in Vilnius and Suwalki were amazing but different, because you can't compare the club atmosphere with the one of festival. Actually, Ten Years After show on Saturday was also brilliant. Never been a huge fan of them, but this show was an intensive hippie rock blues hurricane with some 10-20 minutes length 70's jams, so I decide to investigate their material much more deeply now. If they play anywhere near your town, check them out, you won't be disappointed:)

I'll try to post a couple pictures from the festival later. Not a very good quality, but anyway, I hope that it would be interesting for some people.

Hi Sagas! Thanks so much for sharing your impressions in that review. smile It's cool to read your thoughts, it's fun to find out how all the different shows around the globe are going when someone shares their impressions here.

"So It's Like That" was in the setlist? Cool. Did the boys get tired of always playing the same stuff every night? wink

Looking forward to seeing your pictures! smile

As were a few others, I know. I just haven't seen this on the other setlists posted here lately (after the RAH show), it was just an observation. wink

Yes, the SILT was again on the list, and there was no Asking Around For You this time in the encore. Anyway, Mountain Time was a good choice for the end:)

Here are a couple of pictures. I was forced to use camera zoom most of the time, so maybe some pictures are not very sharp.  http://public.fotki.com/sigas/suwalki-blues-17-18/

If anybody interested, just added some pictures of Ten Years After and Jarle Bernhoft/Knut Reiersrud from Norway from the same festival.
