Topic: Feel Good Baseball Story

Puerto Rican native Jonathan Sanchez threw the first no-hitter for the SF Giants since 1976 last night. The back story here though is that Sanchez was demoted to the bull pen 2 weeks ago after struggling as a starter. He'd been rumored to be on the trading block as the Giants were looking for another bat to boost their offense. Here's where it gets good, Randy Johnson strains his shoulder batting and goes on the DL and Ryan Sadowski, who got called up to replace Sanchez in the rotation finally gave up some runs and lost a game. So last night Bruce Bochy gives Sanchez one more start and he responds by making history. He missed a perfect game when Juan Uribe booted a sharp, but playable grounder @ 3rd base. Ironically Sanchez' father came to town to see his son pitch in "The Bigs" for the first time last night. The Giants and their fans were still reeling from the news that Phillies mgr. Charlie Manuel passed on Pablo Sandoval, aka The Kung-Fu Panda, as an alternate for the All-Star team yesterday, but Sanchez took the sting outta that entire other story. Aaron Rowand saved the no-no with an incredible catch up against the center field wall in the 9th inning.

Re: Feel Good Baseball Story

Interesting to hear that two former White Sox played a significant role in that game, one spoiling the potential perfect game, the other preserving the no-no.

That's a stretch Bill, but I applaud your fervor for all things Chisox. Another sidebar to the story was that Bengie Molina the everyday catcher skipped the game to be with his wife who was having a baby. Eli Whiteside caught the game, his 13th start in the bigs......on a Fri.
