Topic: Another newbie hits the floor runnin'!

Hi

My name is Chris Watson and I'm a full-time guitar teacher and music fanatic from the UK. There's only two types of music...good and bad, and I'll not know what something falls into until I've heard it. That means I have wide and varied tastes and have watched Joe B come up through the blues/hard rock scene like a hurricane! I have mucho respect for Joe as a player and writer but also the amount of time he spent learning his art. He's an inspiration to both me and my students.

I hang out at a fair few guitar forums and, as a consequence, end up doing lots of collaborative recordings over the internet. Great fun and sometimes great results! E-mail has allowed us to write and record songs without being in the same room or having met. My latest one is a cover of 'If Heartaches Were Nickels' written by the great, great Warren Haynes of Govt Mule and Alman Brothers. If any of you would like to hear it, please visit this link...

In the meantime, I'll be checking out all the cool Joe related stuff here on the site.

All the best
Chris.

Welcome Chris, good to have you on board here. I'm a little too old to start to learn guitar but I can sure appreciate a good player when I hear one. Maybe you could teach me by e-mail - probably the safest distance! There are lots of players on here, you'll fit in just great!

Wow Chris! I just listened to your cover of that brilliant song and I am very impressed. Great guitar work and excellent vocals by Rev Gill.
There are loads of players here and I'm sure you're going to fit in very well. Welcome to Joe's forum....an emporium of all things Joe!

Cheers Tripsy. I've done 100's of covers including Gary Moore, SRV, Jeff Healey but then there's Bullet For My Valentine and Avenged Sevenfold...oh and Pink Floyd and AC/DC and...well, whatever mood takes me! Sometimes I like heavy and sometimes I like light and all points in between! I have a load of videos on youtube also. If you're interested, go to http://www.youtube.com/user/wahwah666

I'm particularly pleased with a cover of 'The Loner' by Gary Moore thats up there and Joe's solo work on 'Heartaches...' is very similar to Gary Moore's style-just not so agressive.

Thanks for listening mate. smile

Yeah, only good and bad mate. The eternal argument with musicians is usually 'they're great-no there not...yes they are...no they AIN'T!' You get my point! Keep up with the lessons my friend. It all comes good in the end. I teach over 70 people a week both at home and in schools and the best are always the ones who never put the thing down! smile

Chris:  Enjoyed listening to this....but being the pain in the a** that I am, I can't help but ask....did your vocalist know that the line is "If Heartaches Were Nickels" and not "If Nickels Were Heartaches"?  I only listened to it through once while doing something else but I swear I heard that at least twice.  Other than that.....very good!

Hehe...funny you should mention that. I have this posted at a site I've been a member of for nearly 7 years and there's a prize if anyone could guess what the error was. No-one has got it yet but yes, he got the lyrics the wrong way round. He did such a good job in one take I decided to leave it. Maybe I should give you the 57 Strat we were giving away!!! tongue

Thanks for listening!

Ordinarily I don't welcome another &^%*() guitarist... tongue

But you hit the nail on the head, when you mentioned the countless hours, that it was obvious the man put into his skill, craft? NO... ART.  Only someone who has done the same would recognize that.  Thank you for that.  Respect!
