Re: RIP Koko Taylor

RIP, Koko.  2 interesting quotes I got from an article in the Wall Street Journal Online about her.

"I used to listen to the radio, and when I was about 18 years old, B.B. King was a disc jockey and he had a radio program, 15 minutes a day, over in West Memphis, Arkansas, and he would play the blues," she said in a 1990 interview. "I would hear different records and things by Muddy Waters, Bessie Smith, Memphis Minnie, Sonnyboy Williams and all these people, you know, which I just loved."

My Comment: I seem to know another guy who had a 15 minute a day radio program about the blues.  Joe something or other.  Interesting coincidence.

"Blues is my life," Ms. Taylor once said. "It's a true feeling that comes from the heart, not something that just comes out of my mouth. Blues is what I love, and blues is what I always do."

My Comment: Blues is a true feeling says the Queen of the Blues.  If this definition is good enough for her, it's good enough for me, no matter what the Puritans have to say on the matter.

Re: RIP Koko Taylor

Sad to see her go.  RIP??? Koko? Ha ha ha ha! Don't matter which way she went, ain't no rest anytime soon.
She'd had two rough surgeries, first one lost to her (when she was the big underdog), she lost to her second....still a tie.

Listen now to someone whom she had major influence on, Nora Jean Bruso.  She's go that same ooomp oomp pah ummmpph!  Alll blues woman and Koko gave her blessings. A stirring performer too.  Condolences to family & friends such as Nora.

She done a lot of miles in her life. I'm sure she's had a good one. neutral Always sad to hear.

Re: RIP Koko Taylor

I saw her a couple times and she always had an awesome band with her. I can't describe the feeling I had but after her show you could tell it took a lot out of her.  To see her like that in a small club  and then get in a ford camper with Illinois plates..........It was just sorta sad you know?  The "Queen of the Blues" keeping the music alive no big tour bus, like she was just starting out. Made me really appreciate her show! The major Blues JAM got a new member!! (where ever that is)
