Topic: Booker T./Steve Cropper and Felix Cavaliere

If you grew up in the '60's and '70's when there was no distinction between classes of music (I think that started in the disco era) then you will remember the great Stax soul music.

I recently picked up 2 cd's that feature a couple guys from that label.

The new cd by Booker T. (Jones) called Potato Hole. Like the old Booker T and the MG's this is all soul/funk instementals. It features Booker on keyboards with the Drive by Truckers backing him up and Neil Young on lead guitar. Some great stuff on this cd.

The other is by Steve Cropper and Felix Cavaliere called Nudge It Up A Notch, Geuss this came out last year. Cropper was the guitarist for the MG's and also played on, produced and co wrote alot of the Stax hits. Cavaliere is the keyboardist and singer from the Young Rascals. This disc has some great smooth soul, some hot funk and a couple of killer instrumentals.

I highly suggest these cd's to anyone that got into or still gets into the old Stax music.

When I was a child I spoke as a child, But all I heard was how I should get ahead,
Now growing up it ain't anything but all This indecision with these debts and doubts
And worries hanging over my head. When I was a child I spoke as a child,
I wish I could remember what I said.

Re: Booker T./Steve Cropper and Felix Cavaliere

Man, great call on the Felix and Cropper album.  Just picked it up a few months ago and it's fantastic.

Caveliere has one of my all time favorite voices...and it literally sounds just as good as it did in the 60's.  Can you believe that guy is 68?!?!  You literally can't tell the difference.  Great great album.

I'm gonna pick up the Booker T. album shortly.
