Topic: Vilnius, Lithuania 14/05/2009

You know the expression that people always live waiting for something, but not living in fact. So this evening was soooooo amazing that I was afraid to hear next song as it would mean it was one song less to hear. I was literally living in this moment wishing the next moment will wait a bit.

Joe was great, talented as always... It was my first Joe's show (and definitely not last) and let me tell you, I was amazed by his abilities to play, by his voice, by his cute american accent and everything in general.

Joe started the show with The Ballad of John Henry and the songs with great guitar parts followed (I'm sorry, I can't remember them all). Joe also played Further On Up The Road proudly reminding us he got to play this song with Eric Clapton last week in RAH. Joe also played Sloe Gin, Great Flood, my personal favorite Happier Times and many more. His acoustic part was soooo stunning I almost cried. Oh, and the last song in encore part was Asking Around For You. I'm pretty sure there are other people who knows all playlist.

For those, who don't have FB account, Joe spent even two whole days in Vilnius, just simply resting and I am secretly proud to be Lithuanian for that reason.

To my regret, we forgot to take a camera with us and all we had was an iPhone (yeah, pictures just "awesome"). And also, seats in the first rows mean we didn't catch a pick nor sticks.

OMG, I can't even tell you, how great this evening was. I am jealous of myself tongue

Hi, just me (or is that you)

Glad Joe put on a great show on his first visit to Lithuania. Great that you saw him from the front row too! smile

Re: Vilnius, Lithuania 14/05/2009

front row and no picks? Talk for yourself! big_smile I was sitting front row, dead center, got my guitar  and Guitarist mag with Joe on the cover autographed, mainly because I caught Joe after soundcheck in the venue (my job is round the corner, so it was easy to see the bus coming wink ).  And I've got a pick after the show, just asked Joe for it when he was starting to sign CD's and posters smile
I was suprprised to see filled venue, honestly. That was positive impression. I nearly got heart attack when entered hall and heard intro of The Ballad Of John Henry - jeez, website told show starts 20:00, ticket stated 19:00, but there was awfull long queue on the entrance and they started 19:15, and quite some people spent first song outside (I was lucky enough to find other entrance). Other than that everything was perfect.  Just perfect in every sense. I have met lots of friends and fellow musicians after the show and everybody have the same opinion. Now we have to wait for the next time...
I have some pictures taken with my mobile phone and some videos too.

One thing is for sure - if you haven't seen Joe playin live, you heard only half of the story...

Re: Vilnius, Lithuania 14/05/2009

I think the setlist was something like this. Not sure if the order is correct in the second half of the gig, but as far as I remember these were the songs that were actually played.

Ballad of John Henry
Last Kiss
So Many Roads
Mountain Time
Sloe Gin
The Great Flood
Further Up On The Road
Happier Times
Your Funeral My Trial
Blues Deluxe
Lonesome Road Blues
Woke Up Dreaming
Just Got Paid
**************
Story of a Quarryman
Asking Around For You

By the way, that stunning acoustic song was the enhanced version of Woke Up Dreaming, following by Just Got Paid which was probably the absolute highlight of this gig. The sound was really powerful and clear at the same time, so it was a pleasure to listen to the songs. For me, it's a real surprise to see JB here performing in Vilnius. Usually famous musicians visit our country when their glorious days are buried in the past, and we see only a "shadow" of them. This is actually my No.1 gig this year, and I doubt that I will see a better show from any other artist. Perfect!

One of the best statements I've read just me! Isn't it funny that when you see Joe perform, you wish everyone you know would be there too? I find it very hard to tell people how truly wonderful a Joe show is; it's something you must experience for yourself. I'm very happy for you that you did "live in the moment" during your first show and you enjoyed yourself fully.

I know, I am just really shy and didn't want to bother Joe, plus there were so many people.

Yeah, somehow I too had got the idea the show was supposed to start at 8 but thank God, checked the ticket and arrived in time.

Roy, that's absolutely right! During the show and after it, I was so keen to share my experience, emotions and thrill, to tell everyone how great that was but none of my friends like JB as much as I do, so nobody actually understood me as I wanted, they were like: "oh great that you liked it, now let's talk about basketball/work/smth else." Even my friend I was with wasn't that excited as it was her first time she heard JB at all. So imagine my excitement when today I learned that my old friend with his dad also were there listening to Joe. One more person experienced what I did and now I have someone to talk to about. OK, that was totally random big_smile

Very exciting reviews just me, Siaip Ciuvas, & Sagas! There is no loss in the translation of your enjoyment!  And  Siaip, exactly who is that Lithuanian guy who looks exactly like Joe Bonamassa  http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/8458/dsc00154.jpg ???!!! Could it be? I suppose 2 restful days in Lithuania will fully integrate a guy.  Any pictures of the Lithuanian version of Carmine? It is OFFICIAL LITHUANIA ROCKS!!!

Re: Vilnius, Lithuania 14/05/2009

Rocket - if you are reffering to the guy on the left, that's me. I've been told on the other forums that I could pass as Joe's brother, and only after those comments I have noticed that there are certain similarities, in particular a haircut, black circles around eyes, "suppressed" and a bit nasal speaking voice. If I could find my 4 years old photos, when I was 20 kilos slimmer, I could have even more similarities. But differences are more apparent - he is guitar god, me not big_smile

Dainiau, are you sure he will be playing on 17th? As on Suwalki blues festival web page and in some articles I've read that's gonna happen on Saturday which is the 18th. So I'm really confused about the exact date.
