Hi - have read some about Joe and just this morning streamed some of his stuff from his homepage... WOW
What's a good jumping off point? What disc would you start with? Any websites with live shows?
Many thanks!

Hi to you too Nelson_M and welcome to the forum!
So difficult to recommend just one disc of Joe's as we all seem to have our preferences, but I dont think you can go wrong with 'Live from Nowhere in Particular' but if you want a studio disc then you have plenty to choose from. My own choice would be either You & Me or The Ballad of John Henry .... or, you can wait until later this summer and buy the DVD of the long-awaited spectacular that was the RAH! Whatever you choose you can't go wrong!
Happy listening!
Welcome... this may be an expensive CD run you have ahead of you
You and Me was my first CD... and it really got me into Joe (not that any of them WOULDN"T though )
"Live From Nowhere In Particular" is a great one. And for studio the most recent is "The Ballad Of John Henry"
Rockpalast DVD is a video to get if you like concert DVDs. Of corse we are all waiting anxiously to get the RAH DVD this year

"Blues Deluxe" was the one that got me hooked, if your into blues that may be a good place to start. "Live From Nowhere In Particular" is a good overview
Welcome aboard!
Welcome to the forum Nelson_M.
I think Live From Nowhere In Particular would be a good place to start. It has a great selection of songs and shows how good Joe and the band are live.
Blues Deluxe was also my starting point but I also agree that wherever you start you will end up buying the whole lot in the end
Have fun..........Tripsy
Not sure how many go this far back, but my first introduction to JB was in his Hot Licks video "Lead Guitar Unlimited". For a kid watching a kid the same age completely BLAZE on guitar was spell binding and so frustrating.
Bloodline is a great album, JB's playing is so good and his feel is phenomenal. Which is pretty much what hooked me on JB, his feel for music. Whether he's playing rock, blues or twanging out some country vibes, its all about his feel. A true gift. I reckon he was playing umbilical c(h)ord solos in the womb!!!!
A New Day Yesterday is where anyone starting their journey with JB should begin. If you aren't completely hooked on JB by 3.03 of "Cradle Rock" then you're looking in the wrong place for musical pleasure.
JB's voice has become a true weapon to match his guitar skills, a real soul and openness.
I'll be honest and admit I have a real soft spot for "Revenge of the 10 Gallon Hat" off Had To Cry Today and "Jelly Roll" off Sloe Gin.
Embrace all that is JB and you will be truly rewarded.
what and where did you read to get you interested in Joe, Nelson. Would be nice to know.
I would go for Live from Nowhere in particular as a starter, it's relevant for where Joe is now, but his whole catalogue is well worth a listen. Enjoy yourself here, there are lots of very nice people frequenting this forum - from all over the place!
Hi Everyone,
Sorry I didn't say hello before. I am new to the forum but certainly not new to Joe.
I'm very jealous of all of you who have had the chance to meet Joe over the years. I'm a fairly shy person and the idea of approaching him after a show or whenever is pretty intense. I mean this is a guy that I've been in complete awe of for 14/15 years. 100% Guitar hero.
The Glasgow show was brilliant and getting a pick was so cool!!! Maybe the Joe magic will rub off in my direction? Part of me is really kicking myself for not hanging around afterwards. On the bright side I've got my tickets for Edinburgh so no excuses!

Hi Morgan,
I've only know of Joe for just over 3 years. How did you get to hear of Joe that long ago?
There's nothing to be nervous of in meeting Joe he is such a friendly guy. He's always got time for us. Maybe you will get the chance at Edinburgh. Stick with Duncan....he'll look after you I'm sure.

Only if I get the guitar pick!
Only joking, see you in Edinburgh, I'll suggest a meet up place beforehand where some of us forum users can congregate.

Hi Tripsy,
Thank you. I hope that come Dec I'll be feeling more confident with prospect of maybe meeting Joe. I SHOULD be cause by then I should have completed my PhD. No pressure then!?!?
Well the first time I heard Joe was on this really bad cassette tape copy of Bloodline. At the time I didn't know who was playing, I'd just been handed the tape by am Amercian friend who said "the guitarist is awesome". That same American guy used to get US music publications from his dad who worked in the oil business. So I'd get these tatty 4th hand papers and magazines and it was in those that I first read about Smokin Joe, this amazing kid who'd played with Blues greats like an old pro.
Seems like such a long time ago! Makes me feel old.

The Pick of Destiny.
I was carrying it in my wallet (no, it hasn't imparted any new skills) but maybe I should put it in a safe?!
