I'm not as good at remembering all the little asides as you, though.
If you missed this very amusing prog you will be able to hear it again on Planet Rock's listen again facility, but you may have to wait a day or so.
Phil
That's what I'll have to do, could not get the digital channel switched from Britains Got Talent (not my choice)
It sounded like the guys may have had a small beverage or two - and well they deserve it.
Joe's last pick got me thinking about next time at the RAH. Tea for One is one of my favourite bits of JB guitar playing. Wouldn't it be great if a certain Mr Plant could join Joe on stage for that one. He was at the gig last week and by all accounts was very impressed with the show.
Come on guys - how about it?
Ian
Brilliant idea! That would be so cool.
Yeah,Robert Plant was in the box at the back of me.I was in the stalls H row 10.
Joe
So how reliable of a source are you. I had heard he was in the house. He had been invited but had not been confirmed he was coming. He did not attend the after show party. Some one asked me to confirm whether he was there. Since I didn't personally see him I could not attest that he was actually there.
You however saw him. Did we meet at the Cocoon? If we did then I would be able to attest someone I actually know did see him.

I was in the same section and although it looked like him I don't think is was him.

Hi Jim,yes i was at the Cocoon,im not sure if i spoke to you.
RP was in the box with his back to the audience when the bands werent playing, when Joe was on i turned round and he was watching closely.Tall, long curly greyish hair he did not have a name badge but im 99% sure it was him along with other people.

Listened to Joe's Planet Rock show last night (recorded before the Helsinki gig) and I thought his voice sounded a bit croaky.
Did anyone else hear it?
Hope Joe is ok, at least he has a 2 day rest from singing now.
Nice show by Joe on Planet Rock this week. He covered some of his blues influences such as BB King, Freddie King, Muddy Waters and Albert King. It's great when Joe's show gives exposure to some of these artists as their music is not as well known in the UK as it should be. Joe played three songs by each artist and his comments were as insightful as ever. He mentioned Chris Cain as an artist who plays in the mould of BB King, which is interesting as Oli Brown has raved about him. Would be cool Joe to hear you play one of Cain's songs sometime, most UK listeners are not too familar with his work. While most of us do love the Cream, Rory Gallagher, Free songs and others on the show, these are regularly played elsewhere on Planet Rock, so it's great to hear the other artists that have inspired Joe too.

Yes, Chris Cain is an amazing player. I've seen him twice and I would say his singing voice is very reminiscent of BB King. At times his playing sounds like BB's - he plays a Gibson 335 (or something similar) plugged straight in, no effects - but overall his style is different than BB's, in my opinion. He leans toward the jazzy, funky side of the scale. His playing is extremely fluid and seemingly effortless. Along with Joe, one of the purist tones you'll ever hear!
I couldn't agree more, Duncan. It certainly was good to hear some real blues on Tuesday evening, especially 3 in a row from each artist.
Lee, if I remember correctly, Joe mentioned the similarity between Chris Cain and BB's voices. Maybe we'll hear some more of Chris's playing on Joe's future Planet Rock shows.

Yes, it would be nice to hear artists like Chris Cain, whom I don't know too well either. It took a long time for Joe's music to get accepted on Planet Rock (2007), hopefully he can help some of the other younger artists to get played on there by featuring them on his show too!
If you missed Joe's show on Tuesday evening, or you just want to hear it again, listen NOW as the Saturday evening repeat is on NOW. This was an excellent programme featuring some of Joe's favourites and biggest influences.
He's kicking off with Mountain Time. Nice way to start the programme.

If you’d like to hear the original ‘Steal Your Heart Away’ by Bobby Parker – and you should, go online to listen to Joe’s show using the “Listen Again” feature on Planet Rock and wind forward to around the 23 minute mark. It’s a wonderful soulful song and no surprise that Robert Planet (sic - one for the FZ fans amongst us ) recommended it to Joe.
However, you have only today and tomorrow to hear Joe’s show before his next show is broadcast on Saturday evening.
While you’re there you may as well listen to the rest of Joe’s choices which started with The Band’s ‘The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down’ then Maiden’s ‘Two Minutes to Midnight’ (that was a bit of a surprise), Zeppelin’s ‘Achilles Last Stand’ (I love this track being a big Zeppelin fan). Then after ‘Stael Your Heart’ came “an obscure ZZ Top number, Vincent Price Blues” (Joe’s Words) and Jonny Winter’s Rolling and Tumbling which Joe raved about.
Then I went to bed.

It sounded like Joe was broadcasting from his bathroom again last. It was another great show and always worth listening to for any snippets of info or little hints of what's to come.
The playlist for last night's programme was:
Kings X - Manic Depression
Joe and Sandi Thom - This Ol' World. A chance to hear some great vocals and ripping guitar from Joe if you don't know this #
Albert King - Lights on But Nobody's Home
Fleetwood Mac - Black Magic Woman
BB King - Chains & Things
EC - No Alibis (Mrs W was happy )
Tom Petty - Free Falling
Jeff Beck Group - Free Falling (I saw this line up - great band)
John Hiatt - Have a Little Faith in Me (Joe has played Hiatt a couple of times recently)
Jethro Tull - Cross Eyed Mary ("your weekly shot of prog" Funnily enough I never thought of Tull as being prog)
Faces - Stay With Me
Muddy Waters - I Just Want to Make Love to You
Led Zeppelin - Communication Breakdown (from one of the very early BBC recordings and probably nearest sound to the studio version. Absolutely fantastic.)
Give it a listen on the 'Listen Again' feature on Planet Rock's website or the repeat on Thursday evening at 10.00pm UK time.
Phil
