Topic: South Memphis String Band - a taste of the really old Delta blues

For those of you who enjoy going all the way back thru to the roots of American blues music, this is a must-see show.

South Memphis String Band consists of Luther Dickinson (North Mississippi Allstars, Jimbo Mathus (Squirrel Nut Zippers), and Alvin Youngblood Hart (incredible bluesman from Memphis).

First of all, for all practical purposes it's an acoustic show, so don't expect anything like Joe's shows. However, on that note, I promise you will completely enjoy the extreme level of guitar playing. It's pretty incredible. The guys have all been friends and associated with each other enough to have both a verbal and instrumental exchange thru the whole show.

There aren't many shows left but they are making their way up northeast. I will tell you that what you hear on their myspace page is really not a good representation of the depth of this music. You really do have to be there. But take a listen anyway. If you are familiar with any of the music of these three guys, you'll recognize the roots of some of their songs in these songs. It's pretty cool.

The venues are all small so it's your chance to also go chat for a moment with them without being jammed into a larger place. But if you're expecting screaming guitars, this might not be the show for you, unless you like to be a little adventurous.

Highly recommend this one!!! big_smile

Just helping to spread the word about going to see GOOD bands and GOOD live music as often as possible!!!
