Topic: Happy Birthday Ace Frehley

Space Ace Turns 58 today!

One of the guys I saw as a child which prompted me to ask: "what kind of guitar is THAT!?"
And my brother said... "Nic, that is a Les Paul..." And I replied (while pointing at Ace on the TV) "I WANT ONE OF THOSE!"

Re: Happy Birthday Ace Frehley

what can I say about Ace Frehley, love him or hate him he has definately had one hell of a ride in the world of rock-n-roll dream gigs. As an original member of KISS his "makeup" face has to be one of "the most" recognizable in rock history. You could hold a picture of KISS up to any of our 70 to 80 year old grandparents and I'd bet money they would say "thats KISS"
I recall 1975 being six years old passing the record store of our local mall, the KISS Destroyer LP was displayed in the front window...I pointed and said Dad "I want that"...low and behold Santa brought me that LP that year...ever since I've followed KISStory and been an avid collector. sorry for rambling on...now go listen to the solo in "Shock Me" it's one of his most insane and by far my fave...Happy Birthday "Curly"........CheersZ BEERinc

I think I worked on Curly's Rocket Launching LP once back in the day.  It was 1975.

Happy Birthday to him.

HA! ..and naturally, I got a black Custom.
Ace Frehley's sunburst Les Paul Customs were the first ones I'd ever seen like that. Who else in the 70's played a LesPaul Custom Sunburst? Everyone else played Sunburst Standards and Deluxes...

oh and BTW
Anyone who loves DiMarzio pickups can thank Ace Frehley. Apparently Larry DiMarzio was winding pickups in Ace's hotel room to get his business going. Ironically, Ace only had his bridge pickup wired, the other two (in the triple pickup config) were not even wired! Guaranteed to have a true on/off switch effect on the pickup selector! cool pa-pa-pa-pah...
