Topic: Pete Feenstra interviews Paul Jones, Joanne Shaw Taylor and Oli Brown.

Hi folks,
Thought some of you might be interested in this video interview I just came across. Pete Feenstra is talking to Paul Jones, Joanne Shaw Taylor and Oli Brown about the plethora of young talent in the UK blues scene. There are four parts. Here is the link to part 1

Thanks for the link Tripsy! That interview seems to have been recorded just two days after the Bluescaravan show I saw here in Germany ... busy folks! smile

Found it very interesting what they all said about the Blues audience and how it´s changing ... I couldn´t believe my eyes when I saw two 14-year old girlies at Oli´s show last week - I was nearly on the point of going over to them and just hug them for being there. lol The "normal" Blues audience is still male and 50+ over here, but more and more younger folks are coming. As I said on another thread - there is no generation gap when it comes to good music. wink

Nice interview Tripsy.
The audience thing (I know your a young one anyway Eva:)), it is up to us  to bring along a younger audience. I am really surprised at how few do this. I know most teens would not like sound of going as they usually have some snoop wuppy woop woop blaring away but each one I have taken enjoyed the gid and often ask to come again or for some cds. At the moment in the UK/europe we have some great young artists that kids will enjoy. If you can drag them there, because they are not coming by themselves. Its great to see a teen in awe of something they are not familiar with.
I took my very reluctant 13 year ol daughter to see Joanne Shaw Taylor. She started the concert, head phones on texting away and being in a general huff. 4th number Jo really gets going, I notice phone is gone and Jo has my daughters attention. 5 he track and Jo is on fire, hannah mouhs OMG to me and I wink back. Such a great feeling. Next time jo is town we will have hannah and 3 other under 14's. Mention blues to these kids and they immediately think 'old farts music' show them the current blues seen and we have a chance:) I hope I make sense, writing is not my thing!

Martin, you do make sense. Like you say most young people turn off at the mention of blues, some older ones too. Taking a younster to a live show is the best way to stir their interest.
Eva, I know exactly what you mean when you said you just wanted to give those young girls a hug. There is no generation gap where good music is concerned but sometimes a gentle nudge, all right, a shove in the right direction helps!

Thanks for pointing out this interview Tripsy. I watched all 4 parts and really enjoyed them. It was very interesting to hear how they were holding up Joe as the benchmark for how to get on. It was Joe Bonamassa did this and Joe did that. Quite a role model.

Funny to think that Paul Jones, as he himself pointed out, is old enough to be Oli or Joanne's grandfather. Time flies.

cheers

David

I'm not sure why, but these videos are now showing as private so I can't watch them. Shame it's the first time I've been at a pc and had the time and opportunity to do so.

I'm not sure why the videos were shown as private for a while, but I've seen the first two now, interesting stuff! parts 3  and 4 tonight!
