Topic: Fender raised prices

This may or may not be common knowledge by now, but Fender really jacked up it's prices just recently. The Eric Johnson strat which was going for $1750 is now over 2k, and it seems everything in their product line has made the same move. I'm just lucky I snagged a beautiful Baja Tele because the price bump, $860, not bad.

Re: Fender raised prices

Yes I cannot understand this logic by Fender at all.  People at home have less money, so you price gouge them?  I would think you would simply build less guitars to prevent flooding the market with guitars that nobody is buying.  I fear that the other guitar companies have already followed suit with PRS jacking up their prices and now even Gibson has increased it's prices.  I just don't understand it, when demand goes down don't the prices too???  I'm no business/economic wizard but I am pretty sure I grasp the basics of supply and demand.  I think it's just greed.  Oh well I'm building my next guitar anyways I say good luck Fender, you are killing Leo's dream of affordable mass produced quality guitars.  BTW 4-5 years ago the Standard American Stratocaster was less than $800.  Food for thought...

Re: Fender raised prices

it is getting ridiculous. i will probably never buy another fender again... i am completely satisfied with my 50th anniversary '54 RI. I do, however, need a les paul which i have been putting off buying for years now because i am so bad at saving money. I will get a couple of those then probably move on to custom made guitars... even though they are expensive, you are getting something unique and made specially for you.

Re: Fender raised prices

On top of them jacking prices up a ridiculous amount; now, even if you buy an American Standard Strat for 1,300, you get a friggin GIG BAG!!!!!!!!!!

I've bought my last Fender

#275 JB LP

Re: Fender raised prices

Truth be told though those gig bags are handy when you can put them on your back while carrying your 60 pound Blues Deville to jazz band at 6:30 AM four days a week...and Fender necks aren't nearly as sensitive as Gibsons, so gig bags aren't horrible.

Prices will increase at the beginning of a decline in demand because a company will try to make the same amount it's always been making. Sometimes that works, but when it doesn't, that's when you see the prices come back down.

Re: Fender raised prices

The across the board 30% increase probably seemed like a good idea in the board room, but I think this will end up hurting Fender in the long run. I'm a long time fan of Fender's and have owned quite a few of them in my days. However, I won't be buying one new in the foreseeable future. One of the reasons I liked Fender so much was because they were so much cheaper than buying a Gibson. That argument is quickly becoming moot, although Gibson is trying their best to stay ahead of them in the price (increase) wars.

Fender has even marked up the prices of their accessories by 30%! Ridiculous.

Manufacturing costs go up - so do the prices. Manufacturing costs go down - up go the prices.

Re: Fender raised prices

I just cannot believe that soon we will be seeing $1000 + guitars coming out of the Mexican factory.  I can't see how "production costs" could have spiked so quickly.  Gas is LESS than it was a year or two ago, wood (alder, ash, maple) is as available as it's ever been, and I can't see labor costs rising that much to justify a 30% across the board increase.  Also, if I was running a company I would much rather sell 1,000 guitars at $800 than 300 guitars at $1300.  American labor is NOT what it use to be and there have been some TRASH guitars built here by most of the major US builders.  I suspect that their sales on the USA Standard, USA Deluxe, USA Vintage series, and CS NOS/Relic/CC guitars will drop at least by half.  I was looking forward to getting the new EJ Rosewood model but for over $2k I'll buy another Gibson or PRS any day.  It would help if Fender could give a reason or explaination for the price jump so they don't look like every other greedy American corperation.  Oh well I guess this will help my AV '57 RI appreciate in value quicker! roll

Re: Fender raised prices

Seems everything is going up these days...the only good out of the price markups to me is that it makes the older used guitars more valuable...I am not talking 50-60's models but the 70's on up models...:)

p/s And as far as buying a Road worn model with a gig bag-Way Too Much Money!!!
