Topic: Crank Up Some Rory

Happy St. Patty's Day, I hope all the Irish eyes are smiling today!!! I'll be knockin' back a few Harp's at O'Leary's Pub with my corned beef & cabbage this evening and crankin' up all the Rory tunes I can find on the Web Tunes player. I just heard the morning sportstalk hosts mention my e-mail I sent them stating they would be remiss by not mentioning Rory when they ran down a list of famous Irish rockers.

Well, listened to Jim Suhler´s version of "I could´ve had religion" just now, which is a very, very good cover - but in this case it´s Rory time now!! smile

Yes, I've heard that too, it's a good cover.

One great thing that happened in Dublin a few years ago was they named a street corner after Rory and put a live size replica of his guitar on the wall for all to see.

Here it is:

J Dawg - I posted this over on Roy's thread.

I picked up the Rory Gallagher live at the Rockpalast DVD set a couple of weeks ago.
I spent the day on planes today.  Holy crap but this DVD set smokes. The batteries on my portable DVD player only last 2.5 hours and I killed two of them. I wasn't even through the 2nd disc.

I think I paid around $40. at Borders, but this is worth all of it.

Rory lives!

RIC, perfect way to spend this particular day. BTW, I know you are a scotch conniseur and travel a lot, have you ever been to the wall of scotch in Seattle at F.X. McCrory's?

Can't say that I have, but I've got a good friend who lives in Tacoma who has a pretty decent wall o' malt in his basement!

Thanks Eva for the above mention of Jim Suhler yesterday.  Re-checked Jim on iTunes and discovered they included the album, Tijuana Bible, that includes the Rory cover you mentioned.  I immediately got the album and I'm very very impressed.  "Deep Water Lullaby", with Mr. Suhler and Joe Bonamassa trading solos is sublime, very Hendrix-ish - one of the best songs I've heard lately and the whole album is equally superb.  Thanks again.
