Aww, I was really looking forward to seeing him again, especially with his new line-up. Wonder what happened? Hopefully HAB will send out an email update... I just signed up, incase I'd forgotten before.
The HAB's site hasn't redone their logo/graphics or taken Davy's photo down yet, but they do list another band in the 4:00-5:30 slot: Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit... http://www.jasonisbell.com/ ... never heard of them, and haven't sampled them yet.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I was a little confused when I saw that Chickenfoot isn't scheduled out that far, but now I do remember hearing that they have plans to come back to North America in Aug and Sept to play larger venues, since their 9-stop tour of smaller venues sold out so fast. Well, congrats to Davy & BDS... this'll be great for them. Not so much for US, but...

Hey George!! My double wide is big enough! Tom..the river isn't on my property, it's the Susquehanna, a BIG river. We do have an island with a cabin and a river house, but we'll be fine w/o using them. Spider, I have a 2 extra bedrooms, so you get a real bed! I have a bad back and understand!!! My living room is large w/loads of space for inflatables. There's also the neighbor's house, they're at their house in Colorada. (Big log home on my "lane"), and my sister-in-laws a few miles away if needed. There's no sense in spending money on a room you won't use. Shreddy, a vet wouldn't make it up my drive. We'll work out all the details in the coming months. And, I have central air, and 3 bathrooms (4 if Jimmy's not home), enough linens, and access to airbeds. So, we'll make it work because that's how big families roll!!! Cathy
Pretty sure BDS has canceled
Thanks Cathy. I'll still bring the air mattress just in case and one of the ladies can use the bed. BTW I live on the Susquehanna also! Maybe I could float you a note in a bottle???? Damn river almost took us away in 2006.

Should I say it???!!! Anyone? Anyone? Beuller?!
Hey George!! My double wide is big enough!
Now this worries me. I have visions of being evicted from said very wide double and being sent to share with Günther so that Cathy can have a three girl hen party in there.

(the phantom editor changed a letter here, added an apostrophe there, and made a few paragraphs before quoting)
What we have here folks, is me getting a symbolic smack upside the head with a rolled up newspaper.
Can I just make clear that I certainly wasn't intending to put anyone off from joining the party, I only tried to put a realistic perspective on things. Knowing Cathy as I do, I'm fully aware that she would try to move mountains to accommodate an entire Bonaarmy - I was just sayin'....
Davy will be doing a full electric set with the new band when he tours with Chickenfoot according to his tour manager,Evan. Bob
Maybe I shouldn't feel this way, but I'm a little mad about the BDS change in plan. One of the reasons I decided on the HAB Festival was the prospect of seeing BDS, JB and the DTB on the same stage the same day. I know opening for Chickenfoot is a big deal, but so is pleasing your fans that have already purchased tickets to see you some place else.
I vaguely remember a post or an article where Joe B. talked about being invited to appear at the E.C. Crossroads Festival and declined because he already had gigs lined up and knew his fans had made plans, reserved airline tickets, etc. to be at those shows and he couldn't disappoint them. I guess everybody can't be like Joe.
I know I shouldn't be posting this, but it bugs me and it's just the way I feel. Sorry!
That was one of the main draws for me too, having those 3 bands at one event (not to mention the price and location), as I'm sure it was for most people. But festi line-ups are always subject to change (although I'm actually not finding any legal wording like that on the HAB site, lol), and I thought this was all for charity anyway (although I'm not seeing anything about that either, except for some links to charities they support, which isn't exactly the same thing, lol). And I really don't blame Davy/BDS for the decision they made, when you look at the grand scheme of things for them. What irritates me more is that HAB waited til (just!) after the 5/31 early bird deadline had passed to to make the information public (that's pretty slimy), and even then nothing has been communicated to us (yet, anyway) via email or news announcement on their site... just a sly swap of bands on the roster. My only consolation is that I got in on the early, early bird price of $20. That, and the fact that it wasn't Joe or Derek who cancelled, which would've been worse.

I can fully understand BDS having to do this, toot good an opportunity to miss. However is you are cancelling gigs and tickets have been sold 9and I presume sales were good), then you should make every effort to honor those gigs at a later date and/or apologize to the fans. I have had 3 or concerts cancelled on me in the past and artist has always done one or the other.
Obviously give the guys a chance to do something about it.
No its OK to post I think. I was gonna say similar as well. if Joe did this I would be in the hospital....
I mean the fact that made the fest more desirable to you is quite a compliment.
If Davy doesn't understand then he doesn't deserve us as fans but my instincts tell me it is something he felt he needed to do. I can dig it to a certain extent but I kinda hope it cost him $$. I feel bad for thinking it and it doesn't change me wanting to see him again or telling people how i love his music. Hopefully we'll get an apology / explanation. and if it happens in the future maybe we'll get the news from him first...
I can't speak for Davy, but I can tell you that he cares for his fans in the same way as Joe does. Let's keep in mind that Davy does not call all of the shots; that he does have management steering his career. I'm sure there must be some reason behind it all, so lets give him the benefit of the doubt.
I'm not sure many will remember this, but quite a while ago there was a show advertised in Germany that Joe was supposedly going to play at. Some tickets were even sold. I read on this forum how some people couldn't understand how Joe could cancel a gig even though tickets were sold. As it turned out, Joe and his management never agreed to the gig and apparently, it was some over-ambitious promoter's stunt.
When in doubt concerning these two artists, it's best to side with them first before passing any judgement.

Hi, thought I'd read this, no chance of me going though. A similar situation cropped up for Aynsley Lister here. He was due to play at a blues festival in Cornwall which they'd agreed late last year, but when the chance came up to support Lynyrd Skynyrd on four UK dates that had to mean he had to give up the festival. It is frustrating for those who had got tickets for him, but the chance to play for 14,000 over 4 nights in huge venues outweighed the benefits of playing for 400 at a festival. I'm sure Davy would also feel regret for the fans he had put out. As Vik says the two main guys are still there.
Aww. I'm bummed out.
I have plane tickets and hotel reservations--all because I wanted to see Joe, Derek Trucks, and Davy on the same bill. Joe was the biggest draw for me, however.
Oh well, I've seen Davy twice this year already, and haven't seen Joe. In fact HAB might be my only chance to see Joe in 2009. I understand the change in plans, but I'm a little disappointed. NOT as disappointed as I'd be if Joe pulled out though!

Well, I asked Davy about it on Facebook and he did send a message to my inbox apologizing. He didn't really explain why he canceled, but he said he felt awful about canceling and promised to make it up to me. (Although, I'm not sure how unless he plans to come to Florida) . Anyway, he said he really looked forward to playing there (has a lot of friends there...). I know he's a nice guy. I luv Davy! I was just disappointed. I'm over it now. As long as Joe's gonna be there, I'm good! And Derek is a major bonus.
Susan
I have discovered that Sonny Landreth is playing not a million miles away in Pennsylvania on the previous night, Aug. 14 - not that we could go - unless most or all of the Bonabodies arriving chez Cathy can arrange to arrive a day or two earlier.
If so, we could have ourselves an honest to goodness US Mimi tour - Sonny, Joe and the Goddess, all on one (long) weekend!
I didn't think the artists were donating their acts... I'm sure they're still getting paid. I just meant if anyone feels ripped off by the change in line-up, at least you can take comfort in knowing your money is going to charity.
And I agree, in most cases where the artist cancels, they should refund or reschedule. But festivals are a whole different animal, and line-ups are always subject to change. Now it might be a different story if the headliner cancels, I don't konw. At any rate, I do think the organizers are obligated to find a substitute who's comparible and in about equal demand, which I'm not sure yet if they did here, as I haven't even checked out the replacement yet... and who knows, they could end up being our next big discovery too!
I still think the worst part is how HAB waited until just after the early bird deadline had passed before coming out with this, and even then not really communicating anything to us. Kinda makes me worry about both the scruples and competence of the fest organizers. I was quite impressed with everything up until now.
Anyway, I'm still looking forward to the fest just as much as I was before... Joe was the main draw for me anyway, followed by Derek as a huge bonus. Davy & BDS was my third priority and while I'm disappointed I won't be seeing them, I can't say I wouldn't have bought tickets without them being on the bill, or anything like that.

The way I grew up, an apology without one or several of the following: an explanation or tears or stammering or sheepish nonsensical tongue dancing or plain sounding stupid or hell, lying even, is no apology at all. He's accountable for his decision(s). He's picked his audience and I guess being buried in a huge gathering like Lalapalooza means more to them... I think getting his butt kicked by Joe & Derek is in there-sue me! Kenny Neal's & his family (especially his son) will likely outshine them at The Greater Ozarks Blues Festival. My big nose smells money... Too bad as I think Davy, Joe, & Derek was a triple shot that might have made more lasting and imminent success, historically speaking. I suppose I could very well be wrong, but I think The Hot August Blues Festival has been slighted.... My opinion only.
Rock On with Comitted Intent & Faith Keeping,
