Re: Hot August Blues Festival
Just as a reminder: The evening before (14 August) BDS is playing the Birchmere so you can see them do a full set, and Joe is playing up in Pennsylvania. Both venues are an easy drive from the HAB site.

I'll let Eva describe her reaction when I told her that The Goddess will be playing relatively near-by the next day.
We're still a way off, but I thought we'd start with a head count so that the local hostesses (Cathy and Jane) can get some idea of what kind of masses they'll be dealing with. Feel free to add or remove names from this first list.

I'll be coming for Saturday's events, but will have to give up Sunday. This trip is going to have to be a quick one - drive down Friday, show Saturday , drive home Sunday
. I will have at least 2 and possibly four people with me. We have tents!
Looking forward to this!
Sandy

Haha, first: speechless for a second about the cowinkydink, then: screaming.
HAVE to be there. The Goddess !!

Hot August Blues Festival - Oregon Ridge Park - Cockeysville, MD - 8/15/09
Lineup so far: Derek Trucks Band,Joe Bonamassa,Davey Knowles & Back Door Slam,Old Man Brown. Tickets go on sale 4/1 for $25. Also Davey will be playing at the Birchmere on 8/14.
Wow, sounds good. I will focus on winning the lottery and this will be the show I go to (okay, I'll probably go where ever Joe is planing for a couple months)... I've been wanting to see Derek Trucks live for a year now and haven't had the chance - to combine that in a day with Joe really sounds great. Plus, I'm assuming Jane would be there - and I'd HAVE to hang out with her!!
Have fun to all those who can make it. Lucky ducks!
Well I'm in a quandry. I love Bonnie Raitt, I've only seen her live ONCE sometime in the mid-90s (with Bruce Hornsby, in Hershey, whenever that was)... it was awesome and ranked up there with some of my all-time favorite concerts, I've always wanted to see her again, and just within the past few months I told myself I was going to make a point of it and started checking her tour schedule (which was just developing at the time). But as perfect and fun as doing the 8/16 Wolftrap show with all you guys sounds, I don't think I'm gonna make it. One of HAB's selling points for me (besides the great line-up and price) was that it's an easy in & out for me, just a 1 1/4 hrs each way, no lodging necessary (can't afford it). But at this point, even if I worked out lodging, I'm gonna have my son and his girlfriend with me for HAB, and getting a ride with me was a big plus for them, so I'd hate to tell them now that they'll have to drive themselves. I could make a separate trip down on Sun, but Vienna is 2 hrs 20 min each way. Another thing is, if I do end up doing Joe's show at Penn's Peak on Fri 8/14 (2 hours each way), between that and the fest all day Sat, I'm probably gonna be too tired to do anything on Sun. I've scheduled myself like that a few times recently and have come to the conclusion I ain't as young as I used to be, haha. Bonnie's other tour dates that would be feasible for me would be Williamsport on 8/6 or Philly on 8/8 (both 2 hrs away), and I think I'm free either of those days, but I probably wouldn't have anyone to go with me and that sure doesn't sound as fun as going with all you guys. I bet I'd end up just skipping it altogether, and I really do want to see Bonnie again, before I miss my chance... I mean I know she's doing great for her age, but still, you never know. So there's my quandry... I don't know what to do. Oh, and add to that, no matter where I see her, I'd only be able to afford the cheap lawn tickets, which kinda sucks, between being so far back and taking chances with weather.
Oh, speaking of tickets... I was checking out the ticket situation at Wolftrap... seems there are only 2 price levels for Bonnie, $48 in-house (which is much cheaper than the other venues I checked out) & $30 lawn... however the $48 in-house tickets are sold out already (I just called their box office and double-checked). They said there's about 500 lawn tickets left as of now, but it'll probably sell out by then. Also there's a chance some seats under roof might become available closer to showtime, but no guarantees. So how does everyone like the idea of taking a chance with the weather?

Cathy & George:
Count me and Kendi in for Hot August Blues as a definite....and for Bonnie on the lawn as a maybe.
Can we set up a Bonabuddy jam session with PA, drums and bass? Maybe Friday night? I'd love to hear one of the JBLPs through Spider's 2555 clone <hint, hint>

Spider (Andy) will be riding shotgun on my coach.
Also I'm pretty sure that Jack (Fuzzy Wuzzy) and his son Ben (Got Mule) will be there too.
Carl, I'll have #024 along; hopefully I can corner Joe for a few minutes to get it upgraded...
I'm sure I'll have room for a head in the truck, getting a speaker cab in too might be a trick but we can work that out.

I don't think Ken and I will be able to make Bonnie's show, but we're still planning to be at the Hot August Blues Festival and looking forward to meeting all of you.
Got Mule and myself will be making the show. Looking forward to meeting y'all there.

22 plus kids, looking good.
Depending on the costs not being too silly, and being able to secure my wife a visa in time(shes is from Thailand), then we are planning on taking the plunge and making the trip Stateside for 5-7 days I'd put it as 50/50 right now.
Thing is, neither of us drive, shocking I know, but it is what it is How much of a pain in the behind is that going to be? Added costs as well.
Hope to have all my plans done and dusted by the end of this week, possibly the week after, just waiting on my Mother confiming she can get time of work to sit the kids for a few days, although if my boy was a little older(8 weeks now) I would have brought em along, shame!
Can meet the peeps I missed in London
Hope to be there, literally waving a flag for the Manxies

That would be marvelous! BUT - I've been trying to figure out how one can go to the US and visit 'off the beaten track' locations in rural Maryland without driving.
You can't possibly take taxis everywhere, so you'll need someone to drive you. We'll have to work on a plan if your visit comes to fruition.
FYI - I've discovered (after much searching) that the cheapest connection in August (when nothing is cheap!) is Heathrow to Dulles via BMI for 'only' 620 euros or so. My direct flights Amsterdam to Philly cost around 840 euros! If the HAB was held in September we could fly to NYC for 450 euros!
Plenty of planning still to be done!

I drive but wouldn't advise anybody drive in DC. Don't know how far Dulles is from the festival could be all hiway driving. I drove from BWI to Arlington with navigation but still got lost in Arlington. From experience you should by the lost damage waiver. It was the best 24 dollars I ever spent.
