Re: Joe, Derek Trucks, Old Man Brown at Hot August Blues in Md. !!!

Ok, will be posting map links but I just had this killer idea.
there are 2 quarries w/in 10 Miles or so of the fest site.
Joe we can set something up at either no doubt for a video shoot.
Think about it, I'm tossing around a few different theme angles in my head now but the scenery is there, the band will be there. SNAP!
done! I'll bring the hammers

There are a few airports around here...BWI is the closest, but there's Newark, New Jersey and Philadelphia. I am close to the Amtrak Station in Aberdeen Md. and you can get the train from the out of state airports...Even from JFK...Nothings cheap any more...but you won't have hotel charges!  smile  Cathy

That's more than decent of you Cathy, thank you. Maybe nearer the time we can have another look, but I don't think it's a reality after where we are going next month - me to the South Pacific and Sue to Mexico?

now if this link works, to the north you see oregon ridge park a 100+ acre woods... then travveling south toward TEXAS, MD you see the one quarry
http://maps.yahoo.com/;_ylc=X3oDMTExNmI … p;q1=21030

the other quarry is here to the north
its been filled since angnes hurricane of 72 or whenever, they recently drained it mumblemumble into the trout stream i think
http://maps.yahoo.com/;_ylc=X3oDMTExNmI … p;q1=21161

actually there are three, another slightly to the north west
http://maps.yahoo.com/;_ylc=X3oDMTExNmI … p;q1=21161

also i can't seem to yahoo up the one thing, its not in operation anymore and is on private property but there is a sign at the road of a quarry who's stone was used in the building if the Washington monument.
here's a link with some old photos of some of the quarries

contrary to whatever Joe said in the liner notes, Maryland is also called the land of pleasant living, quarries and all... wink

I'll bet you that Joe never, ever, wants to see a rock quarry again. At least not that quarry in Georgia!

Re: Joe, Derek Trucks, Old Man Brown at Hot August Blues in Md. !!!

Talk about a positively AWESOME Blues Festival!  Joe and the boys plus the Derek Trucks Band playing at the same show.  You mean dreams can come true.  Cathy and Jane count me in I will be there.  OH YEAH......  Barbara  wink

Re: Joe, Derek Trucks, Old Man Brown at Hot August Blues in Md. !!!

Wow, this festi is really drumming up some widespread excitement here, huh?  Would be great to meet all you people who are talking about coming.  I just did a google map for myself and it's only 1 hr 18 min for me, even closer than Baltimore, yay.  Now I am NOT a fan of humidity, as I get horrible headaches, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it (hydration is the key I believe)... it's worth it for a great day of music like that! big_smile

Yeah Vikki its a straight shot down the road for you. sometimes its not that bad weather wise but they do not call it Hot August Blues for nuthin!

Warning : the following is sort of personal so just tune out for those not interested.

I can't stop thinking about this and for a number of reasons. some of you may remember me talking about a fantasy i had (have) that started a number of years ago called Joe-stock 2010. I picked 2010 because it was far enough out to make the fantasy appear acheivable. it was to be a weekend long even at a special little place i know very close to the site of the HAB fest. I would win the lottery, hire Joe and some other bands, the bonabuddies would come, we would party all weekend and Joe would play his entire catalog over the course of the three day event. Now there are so many many things that i realized as time moved on that would prevent the fantasy from becoming reality, and truly in fact I thought of a few things that would actually make it less than ideal but thats insignificant now. I have delt with that but finding out about the HAB , well its about as close as one can get to this fantasy I had (have).
Of course it makes me nuts Joe isn't headlining because I would hope his set to be as long as possible, and when I say Joe you know i mean Joe and his band of brothers, the Joe Bonamassa Band (although they weren't involved in the original fantasy wink ).

anyway I am so excitied but I realized last night part of why I desire for Joe to play his music there in these hills, through the Valley..... i realized what is going to happen this August. I play my recordings of Joe alot around these parts, as loud as possible and as outdoors as possible but when he is going to come here and play, I know, because I am scientist and all, that the music will truly live on forever and be a part of this land for all time. It is sort of hard to explain in words, I really need alot of arm waving and complicated mathmatical formulas to demonstrate but the music will be bouncing off the fans, the trees, the hills, it will be abosrbed in the people, in the hills, in the wings of resident birds. It will reflect from one point to another, up and down and all around. it will come back out through the smiles of the witnesses. Yeah some of it will get abosrbed deep into the Earth and some will go off on odd tangents into the surroundings skies but the majority and most importantly the deep deep heavy black sheep fringy parts I know, I aboslutely believe and know will remain in this air space for the rest of the history of the Earth in some way. I will know that when I am walking one day and I think I felt a wave of groove or blues or the beat of the wings of the crow flying by seem to be very familiar that it will be because the music had played there one special day. my homeplace will get bonabaptised in a way i just can't do with recordings. it will be great! thinking about it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside big_smile !

Re: Joe, Derek Trucks, Old Man Brown at Hot August Blues in Md. !!!

OMG I'm so jealous!  I'd LOVE to see this lineup!  Hmmm maybe I can fly cross-country in August?????

Is this lineup playing any other festivals in the US this year?  Does anyone know?

Re: Joe, Derek Trucks, Old Man Brown at Hot August Blues in Md. !!!

Hey, I have a question for people who have been to this blues festival before.

After seeing it here yesterday, Scott and I are SERIOUSLY thinking about flying back there for it.  We have family in PA, and it would be a great combo visit.  But we want to know some stuff about the festival--

Is there one stage or competing stages?  Meaning--will the acts be competing with each other on different stages and we'll miss one because we're seeing another?

Seating--tickets go on sale April 1--is it open seating and should we bring chairs/blankets or do they have seats?

Those are the 2 biggest questions now.  Some needed to know by the Pennsylvania family who are also interested in going.

Thanks!
Lisa.

Also - I was wondering if this event could sell out, or will there definately be tickets available the day of the show.  smile

Re: Joe, Derek Trucks, Old Man Brown at Hot August Blues in Md. !!!

Let's see if I can answer your questions, but I encourage you to check the Festival's web site..There is only 1 stage....set-up is like an amphitheater..yes you bring chairs or a blanket and it is open seating. I can't say anything about whether it will be a sell out. IMHO this is the best line up ever....Hope this helps!    Cathy

It's looking like I'll be there with some friends - with Spider riding shotgun.

Question - did Davy get back with Adam and Ross or is this BDS v. 2.0???

Cathy your yard is going to look like a tent city that night! lol

Re: Joe, Derek Trucks, Old Man Brown at Hot August Blues in Md. !!!

EVERYBODY!!! WHETHER YOU INTEND ON GOING OR NOT!!!!  I NEED YOUR HELP!!!

I gave Ryan McGarvey a heads up about the "TBA" slot at this event. He called the booking office and talked to the person in charge. If you have heard Ryan's "Forward in Reverse" CD you'll know that he would fit right in.

What you need to do is call, email or whatever to the people at Hot August Blues and request that they offer that spot to Ryan - he is really psyched to do it!

Thanks from Ryan and his band (and me too!!)
