Re: The Pain and Sorrow appreciation thread

I really like all of the older material.  Every once in a while I pull out the DVD from Piere's and pop it in...  Still has the same effect as it did back a few years ago when we were there when it was being taped.  I'll never forget that show.   He has came back a few time since and there was another a few year later that was equally as memorable.  All before Y&M.   (Not that I don't dig the newer stuff too!)

Re: The Pain and Sorrow appreciation thread

was listening to the studio version again this morning and thinking about some recent discussions about lengthy guitar solos. Pain and Sorrow is a great example in my opinion of a lengthy solo thats not repetitive. not to say that maybe a few notes don't repeat a couple times, although I would not be suprised if anyalyzed deeply it would show that the rythm parts are slightly different when the guitar parts briefly repeat, but it seems like it ( and Joe, and band ) could just go on forever.
I think that this may be like pi. I think this may very well indeed be that constant factor needed to solve the 'equation'. similar to how pi helps us determine circumferance, etc. this will definitely change the course of my weekend project research (don't ask, use your imagination, its key smile )

Re: The Pain and Sorrow appreciation thread

Just a little something I found whilst surfing:

Vicky

"Stellar" a word used by Joe Bonamassa (also apt as a description of the man himself cool)

Re: The Pain and Sorrow appreciation thread

Thanks Vicky!!!!!

"On the last pre-encore song, 'Pain and Sorrow' during and enormously long breakdown, individual notes seemed to float down from the heavens, pass through Bonamassa, flow through his fingers and out of the instrument, then fall together in a massive strangling chord...."

Yeah, its like that!!!
of course the proper terminology is bonamassive

Re: The Pain and Sorrow appreciation thread

anyone think these lyrics AREN'T correct?
thanks in advance

Sparkle as the tears come, they glitter as they fall.
You sacrifice your love for the wonder of it all.
But I will, and you won’t - and I deal, and you don’t, yeah.

Livin’ on pain and sorrow, until you find another way.
Livin’ on pain and sorrow, until I find another way.

Where’s your silver lining? Where’s your long lost friend?
The emptiness is shining, from somewhere deep within.
But I will, and you won’t - and I deal, and you don’t yeah.

Livin’ on pain and sorrow, until you find another way.
Livin’ on pain and sorrow, until I find another way.
Livin’ on pain and sorrow, until you find another way.
Livin’ on pain and sorrow, until I find another way.

No I…Go on…It’s your life baby,
‘Til you find another way…Go on…Oh yeah.

Pain and sorrow.
Pain and sorrow.
Pain and sorrow.
Find another way.

(btw, haven't forgotten about you vicky or anyone else i promised live show to, just not able at this moment to fufil but hope to soon)

Jane you're the only one suited to bring this thread back from the grave tongue

Re: The Pain and Sorrow appreciation thread

The lyrics have nothing to do with it for me, that song is all about the Jimi-esque guitar work. Ahh, I remember calling a Bonabuddy as I was sittin' on the beach in SoCal one afternoon, groovin' on Pain & Sorrow as we spoke.

Re: The Pain and Sorrow appreciation thread

I boldy proclaim that after listening to Just got Paid on the RAH itunes, I think the time is right for Pain and Sorrow again. I mean I only want Joe to play it when he is ready/wants to but i used to feel it just wasn't the right time. I feel different now and am ready for it whenever and however. Really want to hear it with the current band. Not so sure about with a sports jacket but I am willing to give it a try. tongue
