Topic: Ceriatone Amps HELP!!!!

Hey,

I own a Marshall VM 50 watt combo, im trying to get close to Joe's tone, i was wondering if i purchased a Ceriatone Overtone Special would this get me close.

As i was thinking the Vintage Modern would be similar to a Jubilee, but not too sure.

Can any one make a recomendation, if they own a vintage modern and have got a good tone or know anything about Ceriatone.

(Unlikely but if you read this Joe what would you do?)

Thanks alot!

Re: Ceriatone Amps HELP!!!!

The Ceriatone 2550 is a Jubilee clone...

Re: Ceriatone Amps HELP!!!!

Best bet is keep an eye out on ebay, may take a while, but to get a real silver jubilee would be great don't you think? You'd actually get the tone (that's if you have Joes hands, and mind...on second thoughts, you'd have to BE Joe tongue)
Most of the times I've checked ebay I've seen one up for sale.
I really wish Marshall would hurry the hell up and release it again.

Re: Ceriatone Amps HELP!!!!

I also wait for the Ceriatone 2550 to get released.
And its by next week the case! I had some emails with Nik about it.

Here are some pics of the prototype:

As to your amp suggestion. I think Joe uses the Marshall 2555 sound primarily
and the Dumble-like amps (two-rock, van weelden) to color the midrange.
So I believe the Overtone wouldn't give you the sound you are looking for..?
I recommend you the Ceriatone 2550. I will go for one as soon as they are out.
A full assembled handwired 2550 Marshall clone with the same bells and whistles for $860
is just a steal to me.LOL http://ceriatone.com/productSubPages/22 … abinet.htm
I once played a ceriatone plexi50 which was a killer amp. Unfortunaly not mine...

As to the Vintage modern. I tried the one with KT66 and they sounded ok.
But it was nothing like the jubilee...

Good luck

Re: Ceriatone Amps HELP!!!!

With the right settings, the VM can get very close to the JB tone (not factoring in skill/technique).  Joe's sound is mostly Marshall and I have heard him sound like himself on just about any of them.  There are clips on youtube of him using DSL100s, JCM900s, 1974x, Superleads, Jubilees, etc.  IMO he sounds like himself through each.  So you have the Marshall thing covered.  I own a Ceriatone HRM 100 and it sounds phenominal.  I think it fills out the midrange nicely and adds some sustain/gain/articulation to the overall sound.  You would be very close with a Les Paul into Marshall/Dumble Clone rig.  BTW, don't sweat the Jubilee thing I don't believe they are the end all be all Marshalls.  A LOT of hype and I have heard people prefer much less popular models for their tastes.  I personally love the new VMs and own a DSL100...definately not jonesing for a 2555 at the moment.

Thats the 25/50 clone.

Nik will have a 2555 Jubilee (50/100) clone out very soon.

Re: Ceriatone Amps HELP!!!!

Hey thanks alot for the replies!

It is tricky getting a Jubilee in the U.K, prices are generally high . . .

I have seen a few on ebay.com but not too many in the U.K!

I'd love one and a dumble clone but unfortunatly my budget is limited and about to go to uni so lol

How much are you selling your Jubilee for Spider?

thanks

I'm asking $1650. Not sure what it would cost to ship to the UK? It's around $75 to ship it inside the lower 48. I've never shipped anything outside the US so I don't know the ins and outs of doing that.

Cheers dude . . . that's not a bad price, but unfortunatley i'm outta cash at the minute.!

It won't be hard to sell like, especially to the U.K market because they are really rare over here!

Good luck with the sale dude, sorry i can't help, i'd love to but i just can't find the cash at the moment...

I think Joe would say to get a 100 watt amp. There is more clean headroom (less breakup) on the higher watt-ed amps, and then can be driven with good pedals. 50 watt amps break up when you want a really loud clean tone.

My 55 watt combo does this to some extent, and the 100 watt version did not when I owned it. I thought by having a smaller watt amp I could crank it up higher, but it is not noticeably different, in terms of volume knob turning. But in tone it is.

Re: Ceriatone Amps HELP!!!!

Thanks for telling me about the 2555 coming out - I was /this/ close to buying the 2550, but now it HAS to be the 100w clone! cool

Re: Ceriatone Amps HELP!!!!

Nik has offered the 100 watt for a little while now, he's just a sloth when it comes to updating his website!  He's probably the busiest guy in Malaysia, and he'll admit that his website is his weakpoint.  I would also go with the 100 watts.  It has all the headroom, power, and low end you'd ever need.  Everything mentioned above about 50 watt amps is right on.  My Bassman and Dailey...no clean headroom.  Bugs me sometimes that I'm getting grind on 2 or 3.  But it's cool for other applications.  Good luck, if this is your first Ceriatone you are in for a treat.  It can be addicting!

Re: Ceriatone Amps HELP!!!!

There ain't nothing wrong with the 50 watt OTS. Plenty of headroom! Reckon it depends on your style or needs. Just cause someone says a 100w is the tits don't make it so. But if you feel like you just gotta have a 100 watt'r then go fer it!
