Bah! He just buy stock in it.  IF it DOES ever make money, it WILL probably be a lot of money.  But who knows?

The only thing that you didn't actually say is why Joe should embrace Twitter. I'll chime in on that. Joe needs to reach that younger hipper audience too. He has a lot of us old guys who I call the 8 track generation. We were slow to CD's and we are going to be slow to Downloads.
It's coming though.

Twitter is Facebook on the go. Joe uses Facebook. I use Facebook. It is starting to age a bit and the younger one's will be on to something else. Twitter is one of those things. I learned to text because my son wouldn't answer my calls. I signed up for Facebook to keep up with him on his travels. He is kind of boring though. He has a Journalism degree but writes as often as Kunta Kenta. Sorry just the only illiterate analagy I could come up with.

Joe however uses Facebook quite a bit. A presence there is absolutley good for Joe. So is a presence on Twitter.

This probably should be in the Street Team section. I think Joe should Twitter if nobody else does that is their business.

Re: Why Joe Should Embrace Twitter

I think it's brilliant.  Speaking broadly for Generation X - we're into communication.  Especially easy communication for busy people.  With a full time job, almost 2 kids, a social life, a passion for promoting music, etc. I love the idea of sending a twitter message to all my friends saying I'm at Bar X and seeing who can join me for a drink (as it probably would be the case that it was a spur of the moment thing to be at the bar and I wouldn't have had time to call everyone that I may enjoy seeing).  Related - Facebook has been great fun too.  I've reconnected with so many friends that I previously, unfortunately, lost touch with.  I've also entered a world I avoided for a long time - text messaging - and now find it a convenient way to keep in touch.

This is the wave of the future my friends.  I would promote the heck out of JB on twitter if I had access to it.  I think like Faceboook, and other communication applications, JB should embrace communication of the future.  It's how you keep the blues relevant for future generations.

P.S.  Bill - cracked me up with the Verizon network image smile

Dept. of Coinkydinks -

I had never heard of Twitter till reading part of the original post here. There was a plane crash just outside Amsterdam airport today, less than five miles as the crow flies from where I am, I'm sure some of you will see the reports today. Anyway, CNN first 'spotted' news of the crash on Twitter!

A Dutch Twit (or Twitterer?) drove by literally a minute after the plane crashed, took some shots with his cell camera and immediately (up)twitted (?) them...from there it was picked up by the media, who apparently monitor this and similar sites. I was amazed.

RIP Iron Man

Can we say that here?

Two Twitter or Two Twat, Tat is Ta Question? I'm starting to sound like Elmer Fudd!

Actually, the real question is, do we really need another way to communicate? I agree with Geoff who so eloquently put it........."Zzzzzzz..........ZZzzzzzzz"

Re: Why Joe Should Embrace Twitter

Twitter? I haven't figured out Facebook yet. Hell I just learned how to do Myspace this Winter!!!!!!

When I was a child I spoke as a child, But all I heard was how I should get ahead,
Now growing up it ain't anything but all This indecision with these debts and doubts
And worries hanging over my head. When I was a child I spoke as a child,
I wish I could remember what I said.

Re: Why Joe Should Embrace Twitter

I'm about as low tech as they come..but..Twitter is a big deal. I have a friend who does it and she has some famous people who subscribe to hers. It's really just another form of blogging (as far as I can tell), but a very useful tool. I think Joe should use every tool out there. (no "tool" jokes boys!)...I think many of us are showing our ages again. Twitter me this and Twitter me that....  Cathy

Re: Why Joe Should Embrace Twitter

I believe in twitter, and I believe in Social Media in general as a marketing, and fan base empowerment tool.  If done properly.

Joe is an iphone user, there is a twitter app he can get for free, and then he can tweet all day long for free on his cellphone that is in his pocket.

How interesting would it be to hear the occasional update from recording...for example...

"Just laid down a track for a new song, not sure it fits the new record, but man the fuzz sound I got scared even me."

So now you are thinking about a song Joe is working on, the tone of the song, the new stuff.

Or how about this...

"While Europe is awesome, the bass player just fell out of his bunk for the third time, cannot tell if it is the windy roads, or if the bass player has vertigo"

Now that is fun, light hearted, it keeps you buying into the journey.

or this...

"I know that the after show meet and greet thing is a tradition, and I love it, but I am just part of a band, and they deserve more love."

Shows Joe to be noble.

Or...

"Tonight after the show stopped and talked to CathyS, and Tanya, I love coming to this town.  They are some of my favorite peope."

How cool would you feel if you were Cathy S or Tanya?

It allows Joe to embrace a new tool, that 15 million are using.  Obama used it, and it swung votes.  His narrative would be followed by the fans, who would have their own followers on twitter, and thusly the word would spread about Joe.

The danger is, using twitter improperly.  Using it as something sort of corporate, and purely for marketing, is a mistake, and will lead to a backlash.

Twitter is relationship based, relationship based marketing.

I hope he does it.

Re: Why Joe Should Embrace Twitter

Dino,
you make some very good points here and yes I would love to be on the recieving end of these kind of twitters. Sadly my one and only experience of twitter is negative but it is wrong for to pass judgement on that basis (as I did above).
The more I think about the setup the more I think I could actually use it. I go to lots of concerst but get a little tired of constantly asking quite a large group if they want to attend. Twitter could certainly help there.

Re: Why Joe Should Embrace Twitter

The fact is, that is a great use for twitter.  If you look at the Web 2.0 community of San Fran, or Santa Cruz, they have all connected via twitter.  As we move beyond the old cell model, and into a smart phone model, it will further penetrate.

I use it for both local involvement in my life, and to talk about the things I am passionate about.

It comes down to sharing.  Joe can share, his fans can then share what he shares, and from that, growth of the base.
